Taking that much meat off the tops of these pistons is definately no bueno. I’ve heard .020 is ok but not much more than that. Mainly done to prevent potential interference problems during a performance build.
This is an idi, not a di. They need high compression to work properly. Pretty sure the people who designed this engine would know. You can safely boost these engines with no modification to compression......unless you plan on cramming 50 psi down its throat.
Factory rods can handle more than 250hp, even the smaller 6.9 rods.

Smaller 6.9 rods are EXACTLY the same as ANY non turbo 7.3. Even same part number. Turbo rods have the larger wrist pins at 32mm where non turbo pin size is 28mm. At 28mm they are still plenty strong for many turbos.
