so we've got a large service body with crane on a 2006 ford f650 with the 5.9l ISB cummins but it is only rated at 210hp is there a dodge computer or a module someone makes or anything we can put on there to make it reasonable to drive? it has a rev limiter set to 2600RPM and with the gears in the rear end it will only do like 67mph. we have a larger wastgated holset turbo that would work beautifully on it, that is if we could get a little more fuel to it, which is otherwise usless to us.

Dont waste your time. I am stuck with a freightlier FL70 with that same POS in it. I guess they do much better in pickup trucks.
Anyway, this truck has digested 3 motors now. the first one went with 2k miles on the odometer (currently at 300k). Freightliners answer was to derate it even further:backoff There is just no good way to make power with it and get work out of it at the same time.
It may be able to go faster though. at 67 what is the RPM? I know the FL was governed at 65 but I had that removed at one point by the dealer. The truck will go about 78 now but it takes about three days and a tail wind to get there.

ken it does just about 67 at 2600RPM and it takes it half a year to get there. it really is a good truck but like i said, just plain gutless. i will give that a try and let you know kevin. first i think we are going to ditch the 4" to 2.5" adapter on the DP side of the turbo and strait pipe it with 4" just to see what it does.

There a number of buses at work that have the 5.9L Cummins in them. On flat land, they move okay or under 60MPH. (They're in a school bus, so technically....60 is the max...LOL)

Any how, those thing weigh about 20-24K empty, no more then 32K loaded. On certain hills on the freeways, it'll slow them down to 55MPH if you're at 60. Gotta bump it to 60+ so you don't get dragged down in speed.

Another member here built an commercial RV hauler out of an older F550 or 650 w/ the 5.9L. I think it was also 200 or 210HP. Granted, an RV prob. won't put much load..... What is the GVW w/ the truck?

I'm sure there is a way to bump the fuel up. As long as it's out of warranty, I suppose someone out there can do that for you. Bump the fuel and push the boost.:hail

I think you can use a regular BullyDog or Edge programmer, but you have to get an RV adapter. I'm not 100% sure about that. I drive an '07 F750 with that same engine. Let us know how the straight pipe works out, I've been wanting to try that myself.

Guilty..... It's a '98 Lo Pro F-800 with a 190hp P7100 pumped 12 valve and an Allison 545 slush box w/ 3.58 gears and 33" tall 19.5" tires....... 2 trailers on the truck usually weigh 8k - 12k GCW is 20k - 24k loaded.

Bumping the governor at 2600 puts me around 67 mph. Problem is these engines are way out of their power band the way Ford geared them.

I'm fixing to solve that soon:sly

New engine going in next month with a #6 fuel plate and bumping the timing to 13* which should put me around the same power I have in my Dodge dually that pulls better with heavier loads. Also looking for a Fuller RTOO9513 13 speed double overdrive w/ 1-3/4" input shaft and an SAE2 bellhousing to back it up :D

10th gear 1:1 - 60 mph @ 2187 rpm - Hill pulling gear
11th gear .84:1 - 60 mph @ 1837 rpm - loaded cruising for economy
12th gear .73:1 - 70 mph @ 1862 rpm - deadheading back for another load
13th gear .62:1 - 80 mph @ 1807 rpm - deadheading through desert;Really

13th @ 2600 rpm ------ 115 mph  SEE YA!!!

Ya a single overdrive will get the job done too but 3 OD gears is more fun.

Gear fast and run slow for economy. I think these engines would do much better if they were geared properly to keep them in their power band.
