Not factory. If you find one, it is either aftermarket, or a dealer conversion.

Sounds like a good project idea :cool

Weird that they didn't.

You have to figure, Ford was gambling on the nearly-absent class 4-5 truck sector at the time. (88?)

For '95 they had a much better diesel than the GM 3500HD. I think popularity grew from there, and within 4-5 years we had F450/550 4x4 crewcabs.

you mean the "gamble" was started back in 1988.......in fact, F450 towtrucks and car carriers still command a premium price as old as they are.
1995 and later had a F450 crewcab option through Centurion. They also had a 4x4 option too. Both options were often out of reach for the private individual, but was seen in city and ulility fleets.

We were flirting with the idea of a newer f450 but the 6.7 are as rare as unicorns and I am not comfortable with the 6.4. And we sure as hell cannot afford a new one. Holy crap they are expensive haha

Agreed, and they do.

I've seen a couple of Marmon-Herrington kingpin D70 diffs for the front of these trucks, but never a crewcab. (They were leftovers from the Grizzly Truck company that went under in midst of switching to Ford chassis and powertrain.)

I don't think Centurion's stuff was available in Canada.

I believe Quigley also did a 4x4 conversion. I would love to get my hands on a 4x4 conversion and a larger cab, but I'm guessing it's probably cheaper to buy another truck.

couple of things to consider.
1) road tax on a F450. don't know how punishing road taxes are for stuff bigger than a 1 ton truck
2) insurance. down in the lower 48 many states will force F450 owners into getting commercial policies.

this is why I built this rig. It flies under DOT radar in a big way. Since it does, I don't have to worry as much. my weight is "1ton" by a quick visual look, it's under 26k gross combined with the trailer and it's under 40 feet long. DOT can KMA :D

This is a big one that people don't know until it's too late. Truck and trailer combined GVW can be a real surprise when you get pulled over for driving out of class with just a pickup and trailer!

I can haul a trailer with a 15,999gvwr behind my F350 but anything heavier puts it into CDL Class A territory. I don't know what the GVWR is on an F450 but as that goes up, legal trailer GVWR goes down without a CDL. 26,000lbs COMBINED MAX without a CDL.

So can you explain what we are looking at?

you're looking at what started as a F250 SRW 4x4. 4.10 lsd 10.25 rear 4.10 D50 front. the PO put in the oem pickup DRW rear axle and dually hubs on the D50 front. Somewhere along the way, it got a T19 put in. When I got to it, I put in a ZF5 with a GV behind the 1356 transfer case. a 4.10 D60 front also found it's way under the truck.
why did I build this thing? after 20 years of running F450 towtrucks and carriers, i figured there has to be a solution to still do what I enjoy doing in semi-retirement. this rig can tow a 20' bumper pull trailer with a 10k/gross or a 13k gooseneck running a deck space of 20'. The truck length is roughly 17', so with the combination of the above trailers, I fall under the total combined length of 40'. over 40', I will need a class "A" cdl. as far as weights goes, the combo keeps me under 26k/lb and once again, I'm still class "B" or class "A" exempt. These are the rules for kali. your state may vary, but they are getting wiser and are starting to fall in line with the kali "standard" Also, why a D60 front? there's nothing more stable for towing than a solid front axle. and why 4x4? I can put it in 4lo and climb up the side of a barn loaded to gross combined. hope this helps clarify things.

I have the same issue with my F350 with the crane in it. By the time I got the welder, compressor and tools on it was overloaded. Had to put the welder on a trailer.

@towcat how would one look up the max gross weight each state in the lower 48 could limit before needing a CDL
