The one that is just cracked... I would consider trying to weld it but I guess a new one is not too expensive and the hassle of changing it is the worst.

What causes these to crack or get damaged like this? Just physical abuse of somebody pounding on it? Running the engine too hot? Cold water on hot pipe?

I just noticed one of mine is cracked when I got home from the rally, the white color helps show off the little black lines LOL
The driver side was replaced right before I got the truck and if I remember right its the side that is cracked again.

cast iron fatigues from all the heating and cooling it does the manifolds paint only lasts a year before its flaked off and manifold starts rusting so its a few things that cause it. also welding cast iron dosent work. as the weld beings to cool it contracts and will cause cracking in another area.

I know it is possible to weld cast... not sure about cast heads though because of the heat changes...

it is possible you have to heat the cast piece to aroud 400 degrees. you can also do this to make repairs to cast heads. the manifolds are no where near the thickness and metal density of cast heads or a cast block. plus the best way to weld cast is to tig weld it to control the heat better. but to go threw all of the trouble of taknig the manifolds off the truck to just weld them is not worth it. just get new and call it a day.

yea I'm just going to replace it for 100 bucks its not worth trying to weld and reinstall plus if the piece is distorted from welding afterward then it can be a pain in the ass to get everything to line back up
