According to the previous owner 203,000.

Ive never seen any 200000 mile engine still have cross hatch on the cylinder walls but this one does
The reason I ask, I've read where the exhaust valves get sloppy at different mileages over 200k. My engine has 205 on it. Few years back when replacing the valve cover gaskets I had my hand on each valve spring but couldn't get any movment...suppose it's only a matter of time.
It would appear the valves are the weak link to our engines.

hammer.... in the engines i have tore down... to see the valve movement you need to have the springs removed and the valve out of the head about 1/2".

ill see if i have a link. i posted a video awhile back that shows a worn out valve guide...

From about 1984 to late 90's all the 5.0 and 5.8 Fords we opened up (about the time of the SEFI, HO, roller cams) all still showed cross hatch at 180k to 250k. This would be probably 8 to 10 engines. I read back in the day that Ford was using higher nickle in the blocks or slightly different composition as well as different rings and many of those engines got forged pistons. I am sure they carried that into other parts of the product lines. I will say it is a little mind numbing to pull the heads on an engine with 200k miles and still see crosshatch. Most of the time we could roll in bearings, oil pump chain and gears and off to the derby with them. Never blew one up. Built Ford tough.
