EZ, I think there are a couple out there. This one comes to mind. I don't know much about them though, although I think Darrin just put one in, so I'd listen to him.

yes i read the post he wrote, he have a c6 tranny though, so i was thinking it will be an interesting thing to put on my truck since now i do use it to pull a trailler. After a few down hills  the brakes do not respond as fast as i would like with a trailer on the back :***: soo... i'm on the chase of one of this.

Pluss after i've seen how good it work on the goat boy rig :draw

Thank you, Exekiel.

Hey Exekiel, I did get one, just not installed yet, I am not shure when it will happen, I may wait until I need to install a new downpipe, and not have to do the project twice. The main reason that I got it was because it was a real good deal. I got the D Celeretor that Mel linked to off of e-bay for $250 shipped. One of those "couldn't pass it up" deals.

I think it would work great with your 5sp, probablly better and more controalble than with my C6. And I, like you, started looking into them after the ride in the GoatMobile,...thanks Travis ;Sweet

EZ,
Don't get your hopes up with the sound from an exhaust brake - your thinking of an engine brake or commonly called a Jake Brake. With an engine brake (Jake) the timing on the valves is messed with to give it that classic semi burping sound where as an exhaust brake (basically a flapper in the exhaust) will just make the exhaust just HISS very loudly sort of like a compressed air hose that is left open.

You being in the chimney business think of an exhaust brake as a Damper - it just closes off the exhaust - chokes it off. This is what gives us the back pressure because the engine is trying to shove all that air down a pipe with a big flapper in the way - that takes horsepower to force the air around the flapper so in effect it adds braking power.

Trust me if you have a loose connection between the engine and the exhaust brake the minute you flip it on you will hear the leak - trust me that is the sound that mine was making when I flipped the switch on mine. She is whistling at the turbo to manifold gasket - makes you think the turbo is about ready to come apart LOL

ok, so if it produce pressure on the exhaust where is it connected to? the downpipe, if so i dont know if it can take it it is not too dificult to blow that pipe from the turbine specially if it is going to be used to create pressure.

So now, do you recomend it for my truck or not. Wath else can be used  any other brake system?

Thank you, Exekiel.

EZ,

I will work just have to make sure that you have all the connections good and tight - which I'm sure yours is. The band clamp on the downpipe to turbo will hold - heck it's the same type mine has and it holds great. My leak is from the turbo to manifold mating surface - because mine is run hard  as you seen (temps that I will tickle) my manifold is very suspeptical (sp?) to warpage (which mine has) - those 1500°+ EGT's will get ya everytime  ;p  LOL - remember I have no quams about slamming my pyro needle home  :idiot: :smash:

In your application you will need an inline design. Meaning that it will hook up at the end of the downpipe. Unit should be about 6-8 inches long overall - so you would need to cut out that much exhaust pipe after the downpipe and then just install the switchs and wiring/plumbing to control/acutate it.

When I had my 2000 PSD I got a set up that when wired in closed the factory exhaust recirc valve just aft of the turbo. Also known as cold start warm up valve.
Never had a bit of problem with mine, and it worked quite well. To say nothing of being way cheaper than one that you have to cut into the exhaust system to install.

Also true that the "jake" sound will not be there. Only a escaping air hiss.

i'm just looking for a way to stop my truck when pulling a trailer along/instead of the regular brakes. Do you have a link where to look at this valve you talk about? you mentioned it was on a 2000 psd would it work on mine 1993 f350?

Thank you, Exekiel.

I'm sorry I don't have a link right now, and with work will not have time to research it until this weekend.

As for your 93 with that engine being pre PSD yours won't have the cold start warm up valve unless your aftermarket turbo has one. Its my understanding that Navistar did not add that until the 99 design. The reason for that was that with the many guys in the north country using their trucks during the winter for logging, oil field ect and letting them idle all day that the oil pressure and engine temps were dropping too much when really really cold. They added the feature to all the trucks sold north of a certain line that when the outside temps dropped below a certain point and the engine temps did too that the engine would idle up and this cold start warm up valve would close and provide a bit of back pressure to make the engine work. Combining the idle up and slight bit of engine work to keep both oil pressure and engine temps at a better range.

I don't think that the trucks sold in the south country had this factory feature, but I could be wrong.

With my exhaust brake switch flipped on to keep that valve closed past the computers kick off I could have lots and lots of heat on a 0 degree morning in about 4 to 5 mins. Was really nice. If I forgot to flip it on when I started the truck it would take a lot longer to warm up as the computer wouldn't close it until the oil temps were up a bit. I had straight piped mine so with the idle up and exhaust brake hiss it made a fair bit of noise. :D

Probably in your case a PacBrake or similar is your best bet.

BTW I put a Bullydog propane system on too. That along with the 75 HP Bullydog chip was OMG when it all kicked power to the ground. :D Was a lot of fun, I still miss that truck a lot.

Hey EZ,
I think you will find the most effective way to stop is a trailer with good brakes and a functioning well adjusted brake controller.
