I have the same truck and possibly the same turbo setup, first gen. big-box Banks, which I installed in 1987. My truck has seen 1150F short term a few times in its life but I adopted a continuous max of 900-950. I would run 1000-1100 for 15-30 minutes sometimes but higher only in short spurts (a dyno run, for example). I got to see the results of perhaps too many minutes at high EGTs last year when I had the engine apart. Head gasket issue and pretty nasty looking valves. Lotta head work. Some erosion on the piston crowns but they were still usable (didn't but could have). Bores were only 0.001 taper, though. That's 140K miles. Is this your turbo?

Forgot to tell about the pyro probe. It mounts in the turbo mount bracket, just behind the impeller inlet (probe is item #18) on this kit and the 2nd Gen kit that is similar but the air filter box is slightly different. Here's a pic.

Yeah, yours is the 2nd generation. The airbox has slightly different dimensions (a little shorter IIRC) and takes a different filter. Most other parts are still the same. You'll always be safe at 1000 and don't be afraid to rev her up and drive the slow lane. You won't be able to keep up with the new diesels so don't even bother to try. You can beat a stock 1st gen Cummins, a stock first gen PSD or a 6.5L GM TDI but that's about it!
