So a couple years ago I found out about monitors. Before that I had no clue about Monitors for the OBDll diagnostic system. In Cali where I live you can have two specific monitors not "set" but neither of the two can be the EGS monitor. Just about every forum is aware the LML issue with EGS monitor but there were very few real answers on how to get it to set. I did call the California Board of Automotive Repairs and there was a very knowledgeable guy there that was actually a diesel mechanic and he assured me that just driving it and hoping it sets is not really a solid plan. At some point I came across a Ford Mechanic that owns his own shop now and he said all monitors can be fix...."ya just have to be a mentally irregular OBDll geek like me that spends time looking at sensors and there values along with there individual role and order of events"............and you know what?........he got it. I'll post his notes of what he found.... Not that any other EGS monitor failing to set will need to have done what he did to my pickup, but when someone says you might have to drive it 3000 miles to get it to reset, something is wrong. He put 200 miles on my pickup along with his work to get it to set. Also, it had been 3000ish miles since I first became aware of monitors and that my EGS was not set.....and 346 regens in that time period...
Note:
ok for Nick to drive as needed to diagnose and set monitor.Initial road test, found NOX2 at times higher than Nox1, although not in a regen. Monitor EGT temps, 1, 626t, 2, 1088, 3, 1054, 4 1076. Check for all codes that have not passed, found NOX 2 performance and Catalyst, SCR efficiency.p229f, nox sensor 2 performance, p2599, turbo boost control, p0463, fuel level, p20ee, nox cat effiiciency, p140c, egr fault Check Mode 6, found Nox 2 runs but never achieves a value. Clear codes, reset SCR, Nox and run 3 manual regenerations, road test 20 plus miles Nox 2 still not setting. run 2 hours of driving regeneration, found EGT temps now starting to read normal when regen not occurring, 566, 582, 546, 500 as it should be. Follow procedure for remaining faults to pass, last was nox 2 performance. continue driving with good EGT and Nox readings after driving regens, EGS now has passed under 200 miles. since clear. System working as designed, egt, nox and exhaust system if was fouled now ok at this time
