Easter weekend truck surgery

I just had a chat with Amy and it seems she has offered my help to her dad with his bathroom remodel. He was non committal either way so I hope he doesn't want to. I'll let you know in the next day or 2.

I'm knee deep "doing something close to nothing....but different that the day before" bonus points for the artist and song--NO GOOGLE!

You are about 11 hrs from me I think.
And being down to just one vehicle...WW would have to walk to work......

Thought you had a re-man engine to swap in Rob?

i do have a reman. i want to stud the heads..and it is a long block so i will have to tear down my existing engine to pillage intake and accessories. i dont have the cash right now for studs/gaskets/valley pan etc.

i'm walking a fine line now as far as what i'm going to do and how far i'm going to go with this truck. truthfully we all have Wendy to thank for talking me out of selling it. this was an impulse buy and now it represents about 1/3 or the credit card debt i am carrying. so i am drawing the line for now and just trying to get the thing back on the road with the cash i have in hand.

with the questionable life span of the trans in my work truck i need to have this truck in working order for the 7 or 8 months a year i can run the thing.

if i was to change my mind i'd sell the IDI to pay for a new trans for the SD or get a newer work truck and downsize. Wendy has talked me into keepingthe IDI even if it just sits in the barn for now.

lets just say the slow economy has prompted me to adjust priorities.

another thing, i think at this point all my IDI related stuff is worth more seperately than it would be if i put it all together. let's see

5000 for the truck with turbo and lots of spare parts
1900 for a reman 6.9 from a reputable Ebay source
traded a tirecarrier/bumper for the spare trans i have

by the time i get the reman studded and installed i'll likely have close to another grand in it. the turbo wil cost a few bucks to get up and running but it'sworth a lot more money sitting on the bench.

let's say i install the reman, rebuild the trans and install it, and add the turbo. then something happens and i need to sell the rig. it will be alot harder to get 8 or 9 grand out of it than it will be to get my money out of the parts seperately.

if work picks back up, then it's a non-issue. but until then having 2 tow vehicles is a luxury i am having a hard time justifying.
