E4OD Problems
Okay so I got an '89 F350 Custom Crew can long bed dual tanks 4X4 all that stuff for free because the owner of the logging company I work at (in the shop) is retiring. Ever since I got it the tranny has had a really bad rattle sound as I would call it. As of a few days ago it will not shift into OD if it has warmed up. It does cold though. It also sometimes have a sort of grinding noise usually when I turn, which I have heard that a u-joint bearing could be the cause. I have read for several hours on tranny problems article after article but I haven't found anything about the rattle sound that is like mine. Some minor cases though and I've heard maybe loose flex plastic bolts or its cracked or maybe the TC is going out. It only does it at idle speeds. If I bring it up only 100-200rpms it stops and if I shift into any gear (r,d,1,2) it stops. Also I plan to check all connectors on the tranny to see if its wiring causing the OD problem. Sometimes it is very slow upon cold start up or it does not engage for about 30 seconds (thinking it needs to get some pressure or its just too cold causing that problem.) I also just drained the tranny and put 10 quarts DEX/MERC in it. The atf was completely black and I ran some tranny/power steering/hydraulic cleaner through it before I drained the atf. After that it seems to shift better. It also shifts hard from 1st to 2nd sometime. This is what my magnet looked like
it had one or two maybe 1/4" pieces if metal in it.
Thank you to anyone for your help!
