Towed to transmission shop and RV to a park.
Getting prices. One shop can rebuild with HD upgrades and billet converter.
$2,700 R&I. Nationwide 1 year warranty.

You could have done a google search on E40D rebuild and found a few rebuilders that would do the job for 2 grand including shipping cost. Problem is still the installation. The biggest upgrade might be the '95 front pump, added shims and frictions in the clutches, converter and tugger kit along with a few other changes.
I had mine done locally and it still ran within a few bucks of the same price.
I added an oversize deep pan and found the finished surface on the pan didn't allow for proper gasket seal.
Can you say leak? Currently I pulled the pan, roughed up the surface and it is still leaking. The oversize pan is about a 4.5 gallon fluid loss when you drop the pan.

Next time the gasket will get RTV on both sides.

Yep. But, down on the road and towing truck and RV home would have been more $$ and time wasted.

217k miles, I knew it was on borrowed time.

Thanks for your reply.
