Hey Oilburners, we need a trans stat to drop in project big blue to replace the box full of neutrals. I have a line on a rebuilt E40D from a 2wd 91 f250 with a 7.3 IDI, as far as I am aware this will work for our 94 f250 idit 2wd, but cannot remember if there was a solenoid pack change in 92 or not. Please advise!

Reading some more, all 89-97 diesel transmissions will work using the solenoid pack from the broken transmission assuming it is undamaged.

There might be a change in the electrical connector, depending on whether there was an update done on earlier E4ODs. Other then that, all E4ODs that came from behind one IDI will work behind another IDI.

And yes, even if you have a powerstroke era E4OD, you can still use it, if you swap the old solenoid pack in there. Alternatively, you could run a standalone setup and run anything from any year.

I put a 97 Transmission in my truck, all I had to do was swap in my 92 solenoid pack due to them changing in 95 with the introduction of the OBD 2 ports in the trucks. You can reuse a trans (shoot for latter models)but never a torque converter, always buy that new. You should put in a new gasket for the pack but you can also do what I did and reuse it(not advised);)

Pretty sure the 4r100 with an e4od pump, solenoid pack, trans shift lever sensor and converter is basically drop in also.

Yes, the 1994 and older solenoid pack had electronic diodes mounted on the board next to the solenoid valves. 1995 and up relocated them to the PCM (TCM for IDI diesels), so you don't want to try mixing electrical parts across that transition year. Mechanically and hydraulically, they are interchangeable though.

Isn't there a speedometer drive issue '89-91 vs. '92-'94?

It depends on what year truck you have, the newer IDI’s had the speedo driven by the rear axle.

Well the 4x4 you have the option to get a vss signal/cable off the tc but 92.5+ IDIs have the vss signal from the rear axle from the factory
