Does a 7.3 powerstroke need a certain amount of oil pressure in order to start

I am with the understanding that this 1994 PSD will stall if the oil pressure gets low enough.
Because it's not supplying see high pressure oil pump so the injectors don't fire.
Here's the thing my oil pressure gauge is showing ridiculous low pressure and I'm not gonna worry about it if the truck will not run without significant pressure.
Thank you for your comments. I just don't wanna lose another 7.3 engine
this is the 1994 PSD super duty

i screwed an air pressure gauge in where the oil pressure sensor was and it read 50 lbs cold

If I remember correctly, the HUEI system must see 500PSI of High Pressure oil to fire the injectors.

This is not the oil pressure that runs the oil pressure gauge. That comes from the low pressure system / pump. This is the oil pressure being generated by the HPOP.

Yes, that is correct. 500 psi minimum.

Air can get trapped in your HPO lines, or so I’ve been told, this will cause many different sorts of problems

The lpop has to keep oil supply to the upper reservoir so the hpop doesn't starve. You have to consider it's possible to have enough oil flow to keep injection going, regardless of sufficient bearing lubrication.

My biggest powerstroke trouble was a 7.3 van that struggled to build enough pressure to start. Once running, things were fine. A new lpop and CPS didn't fix it.

Well I wanna thank you guys for your comments and replies. After changing the gauges and watching this a little bit it appears that what is happening is that the oil pressure is dropping down to almost nothing when the engine gets hotter than normal.
I got in last night off the hood the temperature gauge showed all the way over to the letter L on the word normal which is higher than it normally runs. And I look at the gauge that I have temporarily set up under the hood and there's very little pressure on that gauge. Have that gauge screwed in where is the factory oil pressure sensor was, that is on top of the high pressure oil pump housing.
One question I have is, there a better place or another place to pick up engine oil pressure. Thank you and enjoy your day

Yes, there should be an oil pressure port just above the oil filter.

I'm wondering if you ever found the answer to this problem sounds like you had some of the low pressure leaking off into the high pressure system. Did you ever find the answer to this

I did a manual leak-down test on the high pressure system. It would hold something like 1500psi pressure overnight just fine.

With a mechanical gauge plumbed in, I could watch the hpo pressure while cranking. It normally wasn't building, but the moment it started to build even a little, it would spike promptly and start. Its as though it had a priming issue.

Ended up swapping in a used superduty hpop with a new IPR. That improved starting, but I wouldn't say great. Pressure lagged as before, but for not as long. At this point the van started well enough that I could sell it.
