It sucked, especially when you’re laying on your driveway and just have a floor jack in a piece of wood to balance the carrier on.

Even just moving the carrier around to clean it and do the seals. It was heavy!!

All in all, I’m glad I did it. I hope the RTV job holds up. Got kinda buggered trying to reinstall it. It was down about an inch below the fill line, so the oil had to be going somewhere or it was just never filled all the way from who ever was in it last. I’ve honestly never checked it lol

If I ever have to redo it again for some reason, I think what I will do is get long bolts and cut them off so I can use them as guide pins to slide the carrier straight on once I get it up in place that or a second set of hands

Its already on so it would be harder to do now, but I have seen alot of guys drill and tap a hole in the bottom so they can drain and fill it without removing it in the future.

Thought about it, but honestly I don’t use 4wd that much, and the oil that came out was surprisingly clean and still amber, and I haven’t touched the diff in the 11 years I’ve owned it, so I’m not too worried about it.

Maybe if I did more off road, or used 4x4 I would do it, and honestly you can do it while it’s still in the truck.

Does this seal look seated enough to ya?? I should have put it on the shaft before I installed it, but in the video I watched it got pressed on with the spindle, but that wasn’t the case for me

Also in my haste I forgot to mark the axle, but I read online to have both the fixed yokes in line, so hopefully no issues from that goof up

Bad news, I broke the nipple off the lock ring somehow….

Waiting on a new one to arrive so I can finish it up, along with a service kit for the manual hubs, the O rings are toast on them… then bleed the brakes, get a new vent tube back on the carrier and bleed the system.

Then start prepping for the rear lol!!

Don't feel too bad, I did the same on my D60 when I replaced my diff seals. At least they're cheap.

Well good news!!!!

Front brakes are done! All new bearings and seals, Ball joints, axle pivot bushings, fresh gear oil and RTV, front hubs have been rebuilt, brakes rotors and pads, new used wheels and tires too! I flushed of fluid through... it looks black in the bottle almost, kinda wish I did it with the old calipers still on, but oh well lol Gonna do a whole system flush once I get the rears on. Once I finish the rear brakes, I will take it to be aligned.

When I first bought my 1992 I had rear brakes like that, and I think I drove the better part of a year with basically only front brakes. I suppose new drums will be in your future too.
