D60 Spindle nuts different than D50?

While I had the wheel/tire off the new truck, I decided to pull the hub and rotor. There is one broken wheel stud and I wanted to replace it. When I got to the spindle nut, it looks nothing like the ones on my F250. There are no square cuts, for the socket. Instead, it looks like there are some flattened areas around the circumference of the nut.

I don't have any pics of it yet... Just wanted to see if anyone knew what I need, for removal..

By what you're describing you must have auto hubs on the truck. It is an odd size that is rather hard to get. You can always use the old stand by chisel and hammer to get them off (I did this once) other wise your best bet is to find a tool truck (Snap on, Mac, etc...) if you don't work at a shop that has one stop by regularly and buy a socket from them. I believe I paid around $60 for mine.

Like stated above. You have auto hub nuts. hopefully you have auto hubs.

And yes the D50 and D60 share hub nuts. But you need the stupid flat sided nuts for the auto hubs and the 4 slotted nuts for the manual hubs

I found a socket, that I hope will work. I also believe that I have the standard spindle nuts (4 slot) from another set of hubs.. When I finally start on this project (Axle seal R&R) I'll use them, instead of the auto nuts..

IIRC the manual hub nuts will not work on the auto hubs
