Hey everybody, still working some kinks out on the engine fresh rebuild. I could tell I wasn't getting all the cylinders firing evenly. I have a good sized oil leak on the right side valve cover so that has to come off. I have tightened it as much as possible. Probably have deformed the cover at this point. Stopped the leak a few times but it returns upon driving. But the first thing I need to do is figure out cylinder #1. I picked up a FLIR on Amazon (it was a great price right now) here is what I am seeing

the #1 is farthest to the right. This was taken shortly after start up. It is quite a bit cooler. I am thinking injector. But before I pull things apart I was going to do a pressure check. I was able to pulse time it using that #1 injector line. So any thing else to check before tearing down that side. To add. Everything on the left looked even in heat to the manifold. Here is the FLIR I ended up getting

It will tell temp at a selected location and has a temp scale live but not it the picture taken. Probably can but what fun would reading instruction be? Also what should I look for with the cover removed? I will test injectors at least on that bank. Thanks for any advice you all might have.

Remind us, with your build, did you get rebuilt injectors or did you reuse? Could be just a single bad injector

Maybe I missed it in another thread, but, is it running rough, or just look different with heat gun?

It runs and idles okay but under a load, driving, you can tell one cylinder at least isn't popping like it should

It might not help, but have you tried adding something like Hot Shots Diesel Extreme to the fuel? A good dose of Sea Foam maybe? ATF?I think I'd try that first.
As for under the valve cover, maybe you should put a torque wrench on the rocker bolts again. Assuming that you can't see anything that looks bad.

@IDIBRONCO I have some Howe's in the fuel. New tank fuel pump, injector lines, injector pump, injectors but I am not against running some Hotshot Secret or seafoam through it. I will for sure check the torque on the rockers

Some good news. The #1 cylinder has great compression

I was working on getting the right side injectors out. I have the R&D aluminum rail so they all got to come out. Got way too hot in the shop so I will have to get after it tomorrow

I found that the injector in #1 was kind of gummed up so I ran a combo of transmission fluid diesel clean, seafoam and diesel fuel through it (alot) and it started popping as normal, a little light on the pop pressure but it will have to do for now. The valve cover leak I am pretty sure was due to the remanufacturer put paint or powder coat on the seal area and it had started to come off the metal. I didn't realize it putting it together originally.

@IDIBRONCO I put some Hotshot Secret Extreme (probably double dose)in the tank and have been driving it around. Everything is definitely improving. Plus it is all new parts in the motor too so that is helping too getting those motor guts some real driving exercise
