Custom Driveshaft manufacture

Well here I am slowly stuffing an Allison into a '94 F350. I went looking to get the front driveshaft made due to an adapter added to the rear of the Allison to hook up the BW 1356 transfer case. That made things a bit longer than original.

I contacted the local drive line shop and was told it was going to be 3 months to get one made due to parts shortage.
Another one on the east coast said 5 weeks.
I finally found Tom Wood in Ogden Utah and got the shaft made and delivered in under 7 days.
With this project that has made it's fair share of problems, something finally went right.
They also had the lowest price which just made it sweeter.

You try potter Webster over off of Columbia and Vancouver in Portland? Had them build my driveline for my crew cab, did good work.

Glad to hear it went well and was best price. I have a hard time believing there is a parts shortage for driveline stuff...but stranger things have happened.
My first thought was Drivelines NW up here in Western WA. They can make anything and make it fast too.

Tom Wood drivelines are the go to for the Jeep world. They make great gear.

They have had a pretty good reputation, I havent really had the best luck with driveshafts from there, balance issues, and recently one slip yoke (a non greasable style) that had zero grease in it.

To be fair, I just took care of these issues to avoid the hassle of shipping, but I did try to contact them through email twice.....with no response.

Where have you been lately? You can't buy hardly anything without waiting, if they can even get it.

I was at work the other day and a power co. transformer blew up. The power co. guy said it would be about 1.5 hours if they had the transformer. He said he thinks they had one left of that size back at the shop. Said they can't get stuff either.

I left out the names of the guilty parties. Parts supply might change somewhere down the road and I was impressed with the excess time and the local cost versus getting one shipped in.
A front drive line gets used how often? I figure it will last a very long time.

Anyone with a sizable lathe, dial indicator, and a welder can shorten a driveshaft and make it run true.

You can get pretty close with just a dial indicator and a welder. You can use the truck as a fixture. Years ago built a dodge M37 with an LS V8 and 4l80e transmission with a divorce mount NP200 transfer case. I built all three shafts myself because the local drive shaft guy didn’t want to. It’s a long story. Anyway it came out pretty good, and I drove that truck on the interstate. 70 mph felt like 200, but the drive shafts didn’t vibrate.
