just making it thicker wont solve the issue. the bends stiffen the plate and the tabs tie it into the surrounding structure. this is what adds the support. just adding a thicker plate might help but it will need to be significantly thicker to see the same benefit.

and it covers the same area as the factory offering. the factory offered 3 different options one small one for the 83-86...a small one for the 87-91 and the large plate that i offer thats 83-91

Ah that shines more light. I'm only familiar with yours and the '83-'86 factory one; didn't know they made a larger one for the bricknoses.

Anyone know where I can get the clutch pedal linkage? Just got mine back from the shop after getting a new clutch installed and they told me the linkage was worn and needed replaced.

I actually saw an original push rod on ebay but without the bushing. Is it possible to remove the old one from under the dash without taking out the master cylinder?

On your '84, the pushrod should just pull out of the master. RockAuto has an adjustable pushrod for pretty cheap, and cheap shipping (it's small enough, they throw it in a first class envelope). As for the bushing, you could go fancy with the heim joint, or you can get some 1/2"OD x 7/16"ID brass tubing, and cut off a real short piece (just enough to put in the pushrod eyelet). The arm on the pedal shaft on your '84 should use a clip that secures the pin on the arm to the pushrod, the clip goes through a hole near the end of the pin.

There's also a set of bushings inside the pedal box, where the pedal shaft goes through. If you let those wear down to nothing, the shaft will chew out the holes in the pedal box. Bushings should still be available at the dealer for $20-ish.
