I was hoping I wouldn't have to contribute to this thread, but stuff breaks. I bought another truck this morning: a 1996 F-250 E4OD 4x4 (Fred), I got it cheap, but it had a steering problem. I'm pretty sure when you turn the steering wheel the sector shaft is not supposed to go in and out.

I was scouting PnP for parts the other day and ran across this:
Do you think we need brakes?
    P_20190817_135013_p.jpg

Hmmm, let's check the other side...
    P_20190817_135036_p.jpg

I find it funny how many people bring their car in saying it just barely started making noise or what not and you pull the tire to find no pads and a rotors eaten down to nothing

A guy I work with does some work, on the side, in his shop. (We are not mechanics, or work in an automotive shop as our regular job)

Another coworker took his car to my buddy, and wanted the brakes looked at. He said they had been making a noise, but it stopped, so he wanted them checked out. The reason it had stopped making noise is the bad pads had actually cut the friction surface of the rotor off the hub portion. So it quit making noise the friction surface wasn't turning and the pads were holding it away from the hub...... He couldn't believe how much better it stopped after the brake system had been gone through.

Scary when its a commercial truck! we usually get them in when pedal gets soft or low and a brake fluid leak shows up.
