I have a 1990 Cummins 12v Anyone with similiar motor please measure the length of there oil dipstick for me. The PO i purchased the motor from has a dip stick that is welded together in the center and hand carved hash marks.

I need the over all length of the stick from the bottom of the handle to the end of the stick

Then from the bottom of the handle to where the hash marks start

and the total length of the hash mark box. THANKS!!!!

Sorry man, if I had a 12v I'd be happy to help, but all I have is a 7.3. But I saw this coming when I first read your title. :angel:

I wish I had of read this earlier while I could still see outside.

1990 model, right; non-I/C, right ??

There is a difference in I/C and non-I/C dip-sticks I am thinking.

I have several of both sitting out here.

I guess you need overall length and both the length from top of tube to "FULL" and also "ADD".

If I don't forget to, I will measure one in the morning. ;Sweet

>>> MISSION ACCOMPLISHED <<<

I just measured two separate dipsticks, both original Cummins, one a 1989 non-I/C, the other a 1991.5 I/C; the lengths are the same.

A Cummins dip-stick handle slides over the top of the dip-stick tube 1/2".

Keeping that in mind, from the TOP OF THE TUBE,

FULL MARK = 33-1/4"

ADD = 34-3/16"

To bottom tip of dip-stick = 36-13/16"

A standard issue 1st Gen. 6BT Cummins with standard filter will hold THREE GALLONS of API-CI-4 15W-40 engine oil to put the level dead-center of the "SAFE" zone between ADD and FULL.

Use :puke: API-CJ-4 at your own risk. ;Sweet
