Just call the dealer with your VIN and they will either schedule you a appointment or tell you it has been done.

I bought my truck used and still got the letter from ford about the recall, mine is a '97 and I'd already changed the sensor myself, since I'm pretty sure they won't replace one I've already replaced, I haven't bothered calling.

No. They are a 10 minute job. Its above the crank pulley. They can get pricey (100 bucks) but its been awhile since I priced them. I have had a blue international one sittin in my glovebox forever. Then the recall hit and they changed it out.... If you want to do it yourself Its easy...just dont strip the bolts out...lol....hey I worked in Everett once... Go aquasox! lol

The blue ones can be had on ebay for good deals, that's where I got mine.
a 10mm 6point socket is all you need to change it, you may want to work on it while the engine is cold.... sometimes the bolt (steel) and the timing cover (aluminum) corrode together and heat is required to get them apart - I got lucky - with a little effort the bolt broke loose - I used antisieze on it before putting in the replacement. If you have to replace your water pump - that's an opportune time to replace the CPS - it's easier to see and get to with the pump off.

so the one the dealership is going to replace mine with isnt the blue one right? Because thats an international part and not a direct fit for the 1997's correct?

What needs to be done to make the blue on fit on the first gens?

No the dealer will use the grey sensor. The blue sensor is for the DT466. Available from International or fleabay.
It will fit inplace of the black or gray part. No mod required.

If you use the DT466 cam sensor in a 7.3l it changes the fuel and timing curve and runs like a **** date. We do it all the time.

Several users here and at other sites have used the 466 CPS and have noted zero difference between the 444 and the 466 unit.

Oh, and the new and improved CPS from Ford is dirt cheap now, something like $24.00 as opposed to the nearly 200.00 it was prior to the recall.

well if one is made for the dt 466 and one for the 444, couldnt it be putting unwanted wear on the 444? are there huge power differences or something? Why are they improved and better?

95 Stroker is on target. I didnt notice RKOCH findings. Either will work just fine. I am guessing.....most picked up the Blue International for cost/reliability over Fords outsourced unit.

Unrelated- I was up there working at the new jail...lol. what a place.
