Long story short I discovered the neutral switch is about 1/2 bolt off from the adjustment range.
Was able to pull if off, manually set to park and start.
I'm wondering if anyone knows about an aftermarket switch that has a little more adjustability.
Thanks

If I remember right there is also an adjustment on the linkage to shorten or extend it. I believe it is closer to the column under the hood.

The issue is timing the switch to the shift linkage that operates the valve body.
When first pulling it for rebuild I marked P R and N on the switch, and used that to position the shifter.
What I didn't think about was that I was laying on the ground with it on stands, looking up, slightly angled.
When reassembling it was on a bench, I had perfect straight line sight, and was careful to align the marks perfectly.
The difference in the sighting positions is what threw me off.
Laying under and using the original sight line I can see the setting is the width of the sharpie line off.
Apparently the switch barely made contact, as it was at the end of the adjustment range.
That sharpie line difference pushed it past.
I could easily cut one end of the housing to extend the mounting slot, but then it would only be mounted with one bolt instead of two.
Of course I just dumped $100 of fresh ATF in, and pulled the stands before trying.
Thinking I'll pull a minor victory out of total defeat, pull the switch off, set it to neutral, and run a few hundred miles to break in, then pull the pan to retime the linkage, which will clean out any errant shavings from the rebuild draining the pan.

I took the "high tech" approach.

Have it set to neutral, tied wrapped to the kick down linkage.
Drove around the block, no issues.
I'll at least get the break in done like this.
All the gears work as they should, just won't get reverse lights, but a toggle switch will take care of that, besides, it might be fun to mess with the drivers behind me at lights.

It will start on gear with the wires tied together.
That's the only thing that it really does for safety.

Speaking from experience here, it will get you pulled over when you forget to turn them off also.

Yeah, after posting I remembered a time some jerk wouldn't turn down his brights, so I hit him with my two banks of KC offroad only lights, one set mid grill, one set on top of roll bar.
It caused him to swerve to the side of the road and stop.
I noticed the state trooper decal when he was angled off the road and instantly wished I was somewhere else.
It's called "illegal use of illumination", and cost $450, back around 1995.
These days could just be someone with a chemical imbalance having a bad day that unloads a 9mm.
It's just not worth it, unless you happen to be driving an actual tank...lol
