I use this Hopkins one and can’t believe the difference it makes. Gives you a remote mounted lcd screen to show brake application pressure and a remote mounted activation switch. The big unit you tuck under the dash and mount the controls right at your fingertips. It’ll also do sensitivity as well as overall strength so you can adjust not only maximum force but how it ramps in

I dunno. I like my prodigy. Once you get it dialed in a bit it’s pretty seamless. It was a little unnerving at first because I’d never had a decent one. I always set it so I could feel it take hold just before the truck. With the inertia switch, it’s so smooth you don’t really notice it’s doing its job. I set the boost level higher than it needs to be to still give that initial pop that will keep things good and straight but it’s probably not necessary. The big advantage over the time delay one is dealing with traffic. Since it’s proportional, if you are dragging a toe on the brakes through traffic, it doesn’t keep jerking the truck like the time delay ones will because they don’t know you are going 10 mph riding the brake (especially in an auto truck). It just knows you have applied the brake for x seconds and then it ramps to set point. Very annoying.

Here’s some pics from the one I run I linked above. It’s truly the best controller I’ve owned. And $70.00 isn’t bad from amazon. Wires up with the same 4 wire plug but these remote units plug right into the control box with supplied cable (phone jack style plug)

yeah i rip each one out. especially on these diesels with a crappy vacuum pump and RABS systems

they dont help with stop n go traffic. they have zero features like a new P2 or P3.

P3 Features:

  • Brake controller activates trailer brakes in proportion to your vehicle's braking action
    • Automatically adjusts trailer's braking based on deceleration of tow vehicle
    • Activates immediately - no pausing like with time-delayed brake controllers
  • Automatic-leveling ability - internal sensor detects deceleration even if controller is not mounted flat
    • Position at any angle up or down in the vertical plane
  • 5 Storable settings let you customize controller for multiple trailers, varying loads or different drivers
    • Store display settings, brake type, language preferences, and desired boost level and power levels
  • 3 Boost levels let you adjust initial braking power and aggressiveness
  • Continuous diagnostic check alerts you to any potential problems
  • Integrated safeguards protect your vehicle, trailer and the controller
    • Minimizes drain on car battery by drawing only 3.6 milliamps when not in use
    • Prevents trailer brakes from overheating by reducing power output to them during prolonged stops
    • Defends brake controller and trailer breakaway systems against shorts
  • Customizable, easy-to-read LCD display lets you choose color, adjust contrast and pick from different languages
  • Built-in, rotary-style manual override lever
  • Quick-disconnect feature lets you easily remove and store the control when not in use

Yes, They are like the fancy new electronics in cars now, too much extraneous garbage.
Have you ever used a hydraulically actuated controller?

It is apparent from your post that A) you have never actually used one, B) you don't understand how they work, and C) you don't tow heavy loads.
If you ever haul heavy, especially on a downhill or icy stop, that inertial controller isn't going to give you the full braking you need, you'd be suicidal to use it hauling 15k on an icy road.
Don't believe me? Try it and nice knowing ya'. If you make it back, you'll be singing a different tune about your P3.
What do you think of the factory controller Ford uses? Or how about the Maxbrake or Brakesmart systems? Or even the Jordan 2020?
I will agree a time-delay controller sucks, but many people use them, and they are better than nothing, but in the above mentioned situation, they are better than your P3.
A Prodigy is one of the best INERTIAL type controllers, and they are easy for people to install, but that doesn't make them THE best controller.
If you're used to running a $30 wally-world special controller, and switch to a Prodigy, I understand how you'd think it was the greatest thing since peanut butter.
Currently, all of the above aftermarket controllers have gone away from a combination of patent purchases and lack of market for a $350+ controller. If you have an OBDII truck, the Direclink controller is a good option.
I can say that I have hauled both light and heavy with all of the above, and I know how they all work and react. Many will say "the P3 is the best" based on their subjective opinion of the highest level of technology they have owned, and although it might be the best for $150, it's far from the best.
Run a real controller, haul some real loads, and THEN post your opinion.
The biggest difference between the old KH units and the newer hydraulic units is how much fluid they take to activate. The KH uses to much to be used on an advanced ABS system, on our older trucks, they work fine.

As a side note:
If anyone has a Maxbrake system they pull off a truck and want to sell for $200, I'l buy it. I have another truck that could use one. :D
