One of the local fairs had street stock and modified 4x4 truck class, so I decided to give it a try. It was close to Ron's house so he joined me as my mechanic. When I got down there my truck was not legal for the truck classes cause it didn't have the stock motor in it. Event though I would be competing with 800HP Duramaxes trailered in set up for pulling. But I was able to pull as an exhibition run, so I took my shirt off and went *******,...:D,..:puke:

yea,...anyway,..It was a drizzly, rainy evening and the track was in real bad shape when I ran, real sloppy and no traction. The good thing was that I wasn't worried about breaking anything. but I really could not put the power to it, it just spun the tires.

Ron was able to take some videos, and he will post them up this morning. Overall a good showing, had a great time, Drove it there and back (1 hour drive) and got a lot of compliments on the truck. ;Sweet

Now I would like to do it on a dry track,..

Wet clay makes for some greasy pulling conditions. Our county fair (Monroe County) is the first week in August, and I would love to enter my 74 in the pulls. Only problem is the front driveshaft is too short to be hooked up right now,so no 4x4:mad:. If I could find my stock pitman arm thats hidden in my cluttered garage, I could lower the truck some by removing some blocks from under the springs, then my driveshaft should make it. I've been looking for that pitman arm for about 3 months now, my luck I tossed it last time I cleaned garage.:dunno

Real sloppy was an understatement! Did ya notice the 18" of mud caked onto the flaps on the sled?

Yup was a fun time, drizzle or not. There were some die hard fans on the hill, takes an awful lot to sit in wet grass for a few hours.cookoo

Soo here's a few pics and some video of the evening.

Sorry the vid gets blurry for a few as the camera kept trying to focus on other items.

And yes the windsheld wipers were running as it was still raining thru the modded diesel truck class. Once the modded semis hit the track it quit raining and got nice.

Oh and none of the pullers wanted to be good sports to help kill some time inbetween classes so Darrin volunteered himself for an interview with Mr. Announcer guy.

I had to throw this on here as well since this truck was the WOW of the night. My college buddy and his dad have been building this truck the past couple of years and it showed last night. We thought the owner was just gonna take the sled back on around and load it up on his trailer the way hes was rolling!

Darrin, that's really cool. It looks like you guys had a blast. I think you did very well considering the track conditions. I think I would have just dug a grave about thirty feet from the start.:rotflmao

Nice video Ron.

Damn Darrin...that truck looks ;Sweet draggin a sled as well as your camper  GREAT effort man!

But--where's the smoke ;Poke ;p

That big rig run was kool :D ...but I'm surprised they let him run that fast because most farm type pulls use a lighter sled - around 30k lbs and speeds above 15 mph will slam the weight box and break the transmission on the sled.

So...I take it yer hooked LOL

I went to the Greene Co. fair in PA last year, they had semi pulls. There was a guy that pulled like that truck you showed, except his truck was all beat up and a couple different colors.

It was funny because he hooked up to the sled and everyone's kinda like, look at this piece of junk! But then he opens it up and that thing was just growling. Had a full pull and then some, best of the night.

Must have been fun, even with the poor conditions.

I've gotta give it up to Darrin, prolly one of the nicest trucks I've seen. Just beautiful!

Yeah Barn, that truck cleared out the end of the track in a hurry.

I did hear Darrin whining about a clod of mud on Big Ed's hood tho.
Prolly bout the most proof shown that he gets it dirty!

Thanks for posting the vids Ron! That Semi was an awesome truck.

Thanks for the comments guys, Yea we had a blast. If I didn't have so much going on I would go down to Hastngs tonight and do it again. When I got done with the pull, the end of the track Flagman came to my window and said "You gotta come back to the next pull in 2 weeks,..I want to see what this truck will do on a good track!" Well see,..

As far as smoke, Ron said it, Since it was so greasy I was never able to stab the go pedal, I just eased into it, (Once the Turbo is lit I get very little smoke) and felt the tires start spinning. I shifted it into second right at the end of the announcer saying,..."first time ever pulling",... You can hear the RPM's drop and the tires start spinning faster. When that C6 shifts, the Cummins just hunkers down, the boost jumps about 10PSI and just grunts and propels the truck till I shift again. It is a real different feeling than the IDI,... I Like it!
Then I left it in 2nd till I shut it down.

Thanks, The rear fenders are what I call Cheater Duallys, they are a product that Lund made for those vintage trucks. I basically bought a mexicaned out 89 F150 4x4 from the auction that had the flares on, removed the flares and sold the truck. Then when I did the makeover they got installed.

Thanks F-Two-Fiddy,.. Yea it was fun, and the poor conditions actually took off some pressure of breaking stuff. Without good traction nothing gets strained, so nothing breaks. that was a good thing!
