EMD Driver: Where is that grade? I know the telephoto pic. magnifies it but it still looks impressive?

This set of Nathans sounds awesome ;Sweet Every time I run this loco, it makes me want a set on my truck! The horn handle in this motor let's you play with the amount of air they get. It doesn't take much air, to get them sounding pretty good!

I thought of going with an actual manual valve so I could alter the pitch....but I just ran the solenoid wires to the horn pad relay...I can do short quick burps or full on blast....just ask the guy at the inspection station when WW took the truck for it's yearly------:eek: :rotflmao

Most of the big trucks that I see with the fake train horns have a loop of 1/2" galvanized that stands between the driver-seat and door, with a plain old ball-valve between the top two elbows; the amount of air can be "feathered" fairly good with such a set-up.

I got a set of REAL train horns if you want. They are leslie blue ones. LOUD!!!!!!!!! I can hear the trains from town and i am about 15 miles out. I will take a picture of them in the morning and post it. The price??? We will have to talk. It takes about 120 psi to make them sound good. i got a pump and tank i can let go with. Just a thought.

I have a pair of Grover 1600 Dual Truktone

A guy just up the road was working at one of the local marinas last summer.

He fished a like-new set of those out of a dumpster, lanyard valve hose and all.

He cleaned them up and mounted them on the cab of his 198? Ford and they sound good.

It is amazing what these money-loaded house-boaters will toss away; they won't give away anything, but they will sure toss some good stuff in the dumpsters.LOL

Yeah, mine was sitting on a shelf in my mechanic's shop. When he noticed my interest he just gave it to me. ;Sweet It needs cleaning up but when hooked up to air they sound just fine.

We had a scrap dealer stop at the shop one day looking to buy scrap metal. He had a whole trailer full of used air horns. He bought them off of a guy that dismantles semi trucks for scrap. Anywho. he let me dig through them. Most had the mounting flanges busted off, but I found 3 sets that were usable. The Hadleys are on my truck and I found two sets of Grovers that I ended up giving to my dad. Mine are a little too high pitched for me, but for free I can't complain. I managed to scavenger a old semi trailer air tank(about 8 gals) and I used solenoids to fire them. I just fill the tank at home, and it last a few weeks until I need to refill it. I want a Viair but just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money just toot my own horn.

Tomorrow,If it ain't snowing and raining like they said it is,I will get a video of the horn and put it on you tube. You can get them at 75 chrome shop for $120.They sound great and are loud.Just not train horn loud which you really don't want cause it will kill YOUR hearing.Trust me.Train horns are not the best for on road useage.I fired mine at the plant with 31DB ear muffs on and it rang my ears and you could feal the 6" thick slab of concrete vibrate!

I used to service the locomotives at a Norfolk Southern yard.

I have been pretty up close and personal with a lot of the horns.

Compared to what these aftermarket companies are passing off as "train horns", the real thing is HUGE.

The air pipe plumbed into them is also HUGE.

I have known them to "POP" the brake-button on a big truck when sounded any more than a short blast.

And YES, they can make the concrete vibrate.:backoff

I wish there were a railroad track across the back-side of my property; I love to hear them go rushing through the night.;Sweet
