Audi is out to prove that "diesel" and "fun" can actually be used in the same sentence. By fitting a 2.0-liter TDI 4-cylinder with 224 bhp and 332 lb.-ft. of torque under the hood of a highly modified A3, the clubsport quattro concept could very well be the most fun-to-drive diesel this side of, well, Audi's own R8 TDI Le Mans.

The car's 6-speed manual transmission directs all that power to the road via Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive, with a claim of 0–62 mph (0–100 km/h) in 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph. The car has been lowered 1.4 in. versus a standard A3, while the suspension's dampers use Audi's magnetic-ride technology to instantly react to driving situations.

The body features a large rear wing fashioned after Audi's A4 DTM race car, while bolt-on fender flares are needed in order to clear the 265/30ZR-20 tires. Braking duties up front are handled by 14-in. carbon-ceramic rotors clamped by 6-piston calipers, while the rear brakes are carryover A3 pieces.

Another neat feature of the A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro is the Audi drive select system, which lets the driver adjust the engine's throttle response, the sound from the exhaust (via controllable resonance chambers in both tailpipes), the steering's power assist, the threshold for the ESP system and the characteristics of the suspension's dampers.

This is something fun to drive and good mileage...Maybe the TDI jetta wil go bye bye and I will get this...

this is no longer a rumor. Audi are also now offering a diesel version of the TT as well.

I believe that version is on Europe right now. As with both could be expected in 09.
