no thanks to the rapidly disappearing copper/brass heater cores, the newer alu ones are now the norm. and so in the electrolysis that comes with them. Over the weekend, I read about someone putting a ground strap on his. I filed it away under the useless but worth remembering file in the dark recesses of my mind. Wouldn't you know it, but I blew a core on my way home yesterday morning. So, I decided to give the ground strap idea a try. Either it works and my heater core lasts more than a few years or it doesn't. One more thing, I zip tie the heater hose to the AC drier pressure port to isolate the motor vibrations to the drier rather than sending all of it to the heater core.

I had 40 k on my oem core.
Truck has 47 factory mikes on it.
Replaced the hoses with gates hose.
Got 8' of hose.

Leaked like a sieve....
Got a brassworks core(its gotta be the core right !?)
Install new core.
Leaks like a sieve.
Replaced the hoses.
Leaks like a sieve.
Bad hose.
No electrolysis on the factory core!
Btw
Tell brassworks not to paint the core offgassing will chase ya outta the cab for hours.

Brass heater cores as well as aluminum motorcraft cores are available from rock auto still. Diesel used brass till 87, gas did later on. HC-3 is the part # for the brass one, it's around $77. Aluminum is more, it's either hc-7, around $87. Ford said in a 2001 tsb to ground 84+ trucks with the issue, in 2006 said to not ground them, but only listed 97+ vehicles.

How rusty is your cooling system? Rust kills aluminum with electrolysis. Use a volt meter and see if you have over .3V....Any more any heaters will get eaten in a hurry.

Look on rock auto like I've said, I literally bought it two weeks ago. It's motorcraft and brass. I just put it in Friday.
