another use for baby daiper

I needed to turn the fuel down on my factor turbo IP that I have on my NA engine and did not want to make mess with the fuel that was going to drain out if the IP when I took the cover off so I took one of my 2 year old daughters diapers and stuck it under the IP. It collected all of the fuel just let it sit for a little bit to soak in and pull it out NO MESS AT ALL!!

I don't know if this idea has been posted but I just wanted to share.

Great idea... I'll have to grab a friend's kids's diaper next time I turn up an ip.

On the tugboats I used to work on, we had oil-absorbent pads we put under the engines and gearboxes (and, on the Detroits, they had to be changed twice a day ) and most people called then "diapers". I wonder if the pads are of a similar construction to "real" diapers?

We used to have "pig pads" when I worked at the dealership, they would suck up the oil and turn the concrete white again. I think autozone just started carrying them.

those ummm big lady pads work well too. had a truck driver use them to keep oil off the ground on a USFS job. Truck had an 8v71 in it and it was a dripper, soaked the pads, in a bucket and all good. said he got real funny looks when he bought a case of them at a store.

Hey, when I had my shop open, I used to do house calls and I did oil changes and such at some pretty rich folks houses, and they do NOT look kindly on any oil spots left behind. I learned feal quick to carry a case of those large size bed wetter pads and lay them out liberally under the vehicle before starting and then after the job, Id lay out a fresh set to catch any drips. Folks were amazed, their driveways would remain cleaner than if they had taken the thing in somewhere to have it done and would tip accordingly
I would get some REAL strange looks hauling a whole cart full of those things out of the store though

We have two different pig mats at work, one does just oil and the other will soak up coolant also. The oil only ones work nice ontop of a drain pan of coolant take any oil right off the top

That makes a lot of sense, now that I might be getting a diesel I gotta buy diapers for it. I just got all my kids out of them. Oh well, gotta use those coupons I get in the mail sometime.

Ah, how I miss those old, leaky DD 2-strokes. I remember cleaning the inch-or-so of black glop from a friend's converted GM bus's bulkhead. Doesn't feel like 30 yrs ago!

Thx to all for the absorbent ideas. Van engine's about to come out again (after a couple of years), and, since last time, the EXTREMELY porous driveway still bears the scars to this day. Plastic didn't help too much, due to downhill slope.
