I have been searching for some CFM imformation as to what CFM an air filter has to flow to run my 97 7.3 PSD. It is street driven, never sees over 3000 rpm, little bit of towing (GVW truck and trailer under 18,000 lbs)
I have a batwing oilbath air cleaner from my 52 olds that is modified to hold a filter with an ID of 7 inches and OD of 10.5 inches, height can be anywhere from 3 inches to 5.5 inches.
I have seen somewhere that 600 CFM is needed for this engine under full load at 3500 rpm, but there is no filter that flows that much. I have found filters in the 175 to 225 CFM range but not sure if that is enough flow.
My air cleaner will be installed through the hood under a reversed hood scoop with rear opening.
I am not looking for a K&N style filter.
