The crap attached directly to my batteries on some of my trucks is adding up. What is the right way to to this? Are there special battery terminal ends that accept multiple add ons?

Does everyone add a new fuse block?

If you have something could you post some photos and wiring instructions?

I have used a battery connector ( for +) that had a bolt that would accept ring type connectors (the one with a hole that crimps to the wire end). Fuse links can be used in place of a fuse.

The blocks take metripack 280 connectors. The weather pack seals fit in the back to make it weather tight. This box will do 5 relays and 10 fused circuits I think. Configurable however you want. The only issue I’ve come across is that sometimes the connectors try to push out the bottom when you push the fuses and relays in. Not a huge problem but something to be aware of if it doesn’t work right off the bat.

I used maxi fuses for the Alt charge wire, glow plug circuit, and main power. I tried circuit breakers like the guy showed in the video but start up transients kept kicking the one on the main power so the truck wouldn’t start. Took me forever to figure out why I had power then no power. So I switched to fuses.

If you want more info let me know.

@Danielle I posted this in another thread. I figured I'd take the lazy way out and just quote it lol! I paid $5 at the scrapyard for this and the relays and fuses are already there.

I will tell you I picked up a fuse box at the junkyard that might be helpful for you. I believe it was a 94ish jeep Grand Cherokee. I'm planning on using it for my headlight relays and heater relay. It would also do fuel pump fuse and relay too. It's in a box here somewhere but I think it was about 3"x12" It will fit nicely near the starter solenoid on a bricknose inner fender.

Picture isn't mine but is the one I'm talking about.

@laserjock That is downright beautiful! NICE job!

I rewired my 77 datum using a blue sea systems fuse block. They aren't cheap but can handle 4 high amp midi fuses and about a dozen blade fuses. They're completely waterproof and use stainless bolt down connections. Common power load and common ground.

+1 on Blue Sea... check out a marine supplier for selection. My truck wiring is clean but my boat was a horses ass of wiring. Marine grade stuff is great quality and you will have lots of selection to fit your application.

Wow so much great information! Almost 5 years after bringing this truck home, I'm finally doing the electric fuel pump, headlight relay, glow plug switch. And light bars... My new town has no street lights and I work at night

I also want to figure out how to "hardwire" my trailer winch instead of bringing a deep cycle battery with me on every call haha.

That is on my short list too out the back of the truck. You want these. They are called Anderson connectors (that’s a brand but searching that will turn them up).

Orion Motor Tech 2-4 Gauge 175A Battery Cable Quick Connect/ Disconnect Plug Kit Recovery Winch Trailer | 12-36V DC https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015CKKU6G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fjYEAbC23EYPY

You can get kits with the wire or get it separately. You just size the connector to the wire. I actually used a smaller version on my glow plug harness to relocate the glow plug controller.
