You are just doing what IH should have done in the first place. And to the original poster, there is a good bunch of smellers around here.

I've had some "off-the-wall" ideas myself and never been "knocked down and dragged through the mud" for any of them. I try to contribute in areas that I have experience, and learn in the areas that I don't. I have met only a few members in person, but everyone here is a friend in my book. Thanks to everyone who has offered their advice and the help... Oh, and thanks to Towcat & punkmechanic for answering the phone at 11PM at night to answer my questions.

It is kinda weird, but forums, like workplaces, take on a certain style. Guided by some invisible core values that either mold people into a certain shape, or cause them to depart. Where i work, it is some of the most disfunctional people I know, with messed up values and bad ideas. I have to pretend to be somebody I'm not to work there, and I hate it. At least on a forum, your free to leave with no consequence. I guess those core values that used to make F-D.com what it was found their way here, and after all of those people with those values left, that began their downfall, and the rise of OB. Everybody here stands for the truth and bad information gets tossed out quickly and not allowed to persist as on other sites. When a new idea comes along, sure there are times when we all say "it won't work, here's why" but occassionally some magic happens and we pick up another trick that sets our knowledge base apart, and the next guy builds on it. Well put Mel! ;Sweet

We have evolved and matured over the years for damn sure, with those who make up the "core" post with no "eletist-self proclaimed Gods" of their abilities or attention ****** who's sole purpose is to discredit anything not of their "discovery" ....for lack of a better word.

Many of us who started with an IDI and moved on for whatever reason still respect where we came from ---AND sincerely respect those who got us wherever we currently are in the diesel world :hail ;Sweet

:thanks: to all

I actually posted an idea on 4btswap.com about hopping up the baby Cummins a few years ago and one guy in particular just went ballistic about making a serious runner out of it. Now here's the funny part, a year or so later after I left the site I read about a guy who did a Ranger swap and built his motor exactly as I described in the post. It runs 11's on fuel and is street driven.
Now that I am older, I no longer get caught up in the brand wars about who is better than who ( truck wise I stick to Fords because of chassis strength ), because in the end the variables to make power are the same. Some engines make it easier to do the job, some are more challenging. I like the fact that variety is encouraged around here; a compound turbo IDI? Sure. Remote mount turbo IDI? Someone did it and shared the experience. Thinking about sticking a DT or C series Cummins in a pickup? Why not. I have not seen any discouragement from doing crazy things; just "ok if you do this, you'll need to do this or that" or "I've done it before, and this is what you should avoid so that you don't blow up/break such and such." The best part is when you hear other members offering up parts and their time to get a job done.

I used my truck for work when i joined here. For the last 3 years it sits for weeks at a time-just hate to part with it-its paid for and is great to have around when needed.I have never had anyone work on it except when I had major problems on the road (It was used to haul a 30 ft drop frame trailer hauling mostly antique tractors engines & farm equipment). I used to feel I had a lot more to offer since I have worked IDI's since 1994-I have learned a lot here and have offered a lot of info (I hope).I remember being stranded in PA late one night and calling for info-a couple guys wrere ready to hop in there trucks to come and help out.Later I had some serious health issues (wich forced me into retirement) Once more I sought help and support from our "BROTHER HOOD" I recieved so many prayers -phone calls-and just plain caring support here I felt like I was the most important issue for the time being,( I was realitivly new to Oklahome back then and had few aquaintencis here)and I will be gratefull for that for the rest of my life, and wish I had more to offer but every one seems to have aquired all I can offer all ready, and occasionally I have a tip to offer also. What a wonderful family this site has put together. God bless you all.

One other thing I have noticed here and on the IDI page on FTE is this crowd seems to bridge across generational gaps. I guess no one feels the need to prove anything to anyone else, but it is nice to see how well we get along even if there are some minor disagreements on ocasion.

Maybe its the IDI fumes :dunno

oh its happened, to me. both on here, and the previous forum haunt. but after fuel went thru the roof, because of what i was doing, i wasnt laughed at anymore-----and those that laughed at ya, get to eat a bit of crow. there are some with hard attitudes, but they either eat the crow, or people on this forum have them for breakfast----or lose their edge quickly

I think the true secret is to be able to "see" whats going on and not draw attention to it if possible. There is plenty of teaseing going on here. My back seat gives lots of fun..... These shots taken at me are all in fun.... I think...:D But see there.. I really know its in fun and finishing up a "shot at someone" with a smiley face makes it all good. Even when a face isn't added sometimes the poster comes back and adds one by saying " I was only teaseing you". That says plenty. For the most part a hero can say ... I'm sorry, I made a mistake... And then get on with the life here. I don't see anyone here really calling down on anyone. That kind of challenge is best left on the school playground and I feel it is here.... What other forum can you find a group jumping thru hoops to help out another member. I sometimes wonder if its because we may be all close to the same economics of income:dunno:dunno Maybe not....

For some reason the group on OB is very different than almost all other forums. I think it might be becasue the flamethrower types are not very well received here. We all stick up for each other wether we know each other or not. There is a good core group of individuals here (the very active people) and we all actually read and contribute. Thats why I will never leave here

thanks Ken!
