I am glad to hear that in all the recent posts about theft, that you had your truck recovered! In our parts, if a vehicle goes to a landfill, the plate number is recorded along with a signature of the driver on a piece of paper. This should have a date, time, payment (credit card, bank account?) on it...just food for thought. Check out local dumps within the area, it will be on record if the dumps operate like ours here.

Thanks! I had actually thought of that, now I will act, since the police have apparently done all they care to, and are headed back to the donut store.

Another condition update: they spray painted the rear window glass gray or black, presumably to hide themselves from other drivers.

In case anyone has extra parts around, I am now looking for:

jack and lug wrench

Steering column with tilt

glove box innards (cardboard box)

hubcaps for 80-86

door locks and keys

ignition lock and keys

air cleaner hold down bolt

Thanks to everyone for your support!

I have an 86' automatic column with tilt, I am in Cali up by Hollister. I'll make your trouble a little easier, come and pull it, it's yours. I think it has the glove box insert to, all in nice shape. It's my parts truck. I have a jack I can give also, I think I have a half dozen of them. might be worth the trip for you. I don't have the other parts though that you are looking for. That is until I get my 85' parts truck home. Might need your help pulling some parts from the truck though, let me know.

Good to hear you got it back!

For what it's worth, you can buy new ignition cylinder and door lock cylinders as a set from Ford for less than $100. Might be worth having NEW parts with NEW keys...

Congrats knuckledragger, I agree with others, that it's a rare occasion to recover it. I hope you find worthless trash.

I always thought a cool mod would be to build a little box with one of those "voice recorders on a chip" and put a recorded message on it that says something like... "This is the Moose antitheft system. You have not entered the proper authorization code. System activiation will now commence. Police notification and GPS tracking has been initiated. If you are the authorized vehicle owner, dial ***-XXXX (your real phone number here) to cancel police interception." Set the thing up on a timer (a 555 circuit tied to the ignition key should do it) and have it go off like 5 minutes after the truck is started. If the thief hears this in the cab, after they are done whizzing in their shorts, they will either call the number like a total jackwipe would do (and now you have their cell number on your caller ID) or park the thing and run like hell! LOL As for the rest of the time when the truck isn't being stolen, you will either learn to ignore the message, or you'll hide a push botton to cancel it.

Great news. Man I'm glad you got your truck back. Fortunately, it sounds like they didn't ****** it too bad.

Hope you can find the fools who stole it from you. I'd go to the dump and see if they remember who drove that truck there.

Heck,For a couple bucks a month you can GPS track you vehicles.Just get a cheap phone from walmart(Make sure it has GPS capabilities-Nearly all do for 911 tracking) and install it in a weather proof box.Hard wire it under the truck to the electrical system. Then you can track it after you sign the phone up on the net. There are several website that do this.Google it.

Called dumps today, none of them keep records of people, only license plates. I could find out if the truck had been there. Not much help in what I want to do. There are a few similar trucks in the neighborhood where the truck was picked up, I will be monitoring them in the future. I can't even get the police to return a phone call at this point.

They may have a debit card transaction or credit card transaction record. EVERY dump we have here requires a signature to drop off....just a thought:dunno

I can't even get the police to return a phone call at this point.

....and THIS is why when I HAVE to call the cops...I flat out tell them....and many have heard me say it..."Have a patrol car here in 5 minutes, or send an ambulance with a body bag because I am going to deal with this myself....the clock is ticking" and I hang up....cops are ALWAYS on time :D

at the dump I use here in phx they only keep plate numbers as well (and you can pay in cash, so no CC #)...but you do roll over a scale going in and out, and those are monitored via camera....just a thought, but a picture is worth 1000 words.

Glad you got it back....I say leave the back window painted black, park it in a dark spot and sleep in the cab with a shotgun....maybe they'll come back for it.

Glad you got it back; it is almost a miracle, though, that it was ever seen again.

Three years ago, the neighbor left one of his 1st Gen. Dodge/Cummins sitting by his shop, keys in the ign., hooked to a gooseneck, while he was gone all day in another truck.

The thieves un-hooked the trailer, took the truck, and it has not been seen since.

I have a 1991 D-350 Dodge/Cummins that has a sort of interesting history.

I know the original new-truck buyer and the second owner both very well; I am the third owner.

When the truck was less than a week old, it was stolen from the implement dealer's lot.

It was found three days later, way out in a shallow lake-bed, in about six inches of water, hung to the axles.

The engine was still running, the rear wheels spinning in the soupy mud, and the thirty-gallon tank almost dry.

500,000-miles-plus later, it doesn't seem to have bothered it, as it starts, runs, and drives good as new. ;Sweet

A few pictures of the damage done. They helped me out by taking the glove box, I have a replacement heater core I was getting ready to install when it was stolen.
