well I just sucked the system back down. it pulled a vacuum to 28 in.hg. this time I added a total amount 2.55 lbs vs 2.38 lbs before. it got a little cooler around 58* down the highway. anyone with a CC knows that wont cool much. I did notice the drier was a bit colder then before.

with the a/c running the low side was at 35 psi. its a brand new a/c machine and im really not that good with it yet and if its not obvious I don't have much knowledge on a/c systems. the machine wants me to disconnect the high side before running the system but leave the low side connected.

I tried just adding some Freon to the system but it wouldn't let me.

I do have a nice set from a while ago. I got the machine mainly because it can evacuate the system and I have been doing a/c jobs often.

ok so I messed around with the a/c some more. I put in a total of 2.80 lbs of Freon. it might be a little cooler but on the highway it still only gets to 58*.

I called a Tech to figure out some more on the a/c machine. well it turns out you cant just add in Freon. but they are working on an update to allow you to, what a joke that is...

the pressures on both sides were around 35 and 250. im not really sure what to try at this point. the only thing is to block off the heater core. last year when I had the system charged I got the temp down in the low 50* to high 40*

I was looking on rock auto and they sell a motorcraft drier. I have a tough one now, could that be a problem?

Here in texas I just disconnect the heater core during the summer, it makes a big difference. I would do that just so you can be sure that door isnt affecting your temperature readings

Was the truck originally an r12 truck? What color orifice did you use?

It was r12. ALL the a/c parts are from a 97 model year truck.

I think I used the red orifice tube. I could chose between the red, blue or the variable temp thing.

I have the orange orifice tube if you want one, I've heard people say they work better on trucks that have been converted to 134a, but from the sounds of it your whole system is new.

I'm in CT let me know I can drop one in the mail for ya if u want

It seems like that would be something to try.

Il try to get some more input and figure something out. On paper what orifice tube would be better?

I can do the heater core bypass. I just don't want to take steps backwards, even though sometimes it seems to go that way.LOL

The retrofit kit I bought came with a red tube. Seems to me that your high side pressure is a little low.

96-97 shows 38 oz 134a and 7 oz pag 46. You are way over that on freon.

I'm hoping to charge mine this weekend so we can compare notes.

I just want to make sure I understand. If I'm reading this right, you're not converting an r12 to r134. You've put all the components from a 1997 truck on your truck. Is that right?
