97-03 Tailgate Hinge Cup Repair

I have a buddy that is working on a 99 F-150. The "cups" that are in the bottom corners of the tailgate are all rusted out. He has replaced the parts that bolt to the bed, and replaced the inserts, but still has a problem because the cups are rusted out.

Is there a repair kit for the cups? He has said on GM stuff, these cups just bolt on, but on the Ford they are welded in.

He is stuck with trying to find a tailgate?

I haven't even seen a tailgate up close in awhile.
Try to find a pic of the cup, and I'll see what I can find.

But I would try calling to get a confirmation. They're calling it a insert. May just be a bushing.
Looking around, you can get them. Most look like they bolt on.
Some are making them out of pipe.

Yea, that the problem..... Each hinge is 3 pieces.

There is the part that bolts to the bottom of the bed - Part # 27 (or 28 for both sides, one is a circle, one is a block)

There is the insert that goes inside the cup on the tailgate - Parts # 30 & 31

Then the cup that is welded to the tailgate itself. This cup is the problem.......

You can see the cups in the drawing of the entire tailgate, which is what worries me........

The ones in the Amazon link are for GM's, but if one could swap out all the pieces, maybe it could be converted to the GM stuff.......
