May as well dive in head first eh? Your gonna be working with the part of any vehicle that most guys seem to have problems with. Just imagine... most folks don't understand the glow plug system, or how a battery gets charged. Sensors and connectors and cables oh my!

Well, there be Powerstroke in me yard!

I was actually kind of disappointed in what I saw at first.
I was expecting the engine compartmemt to be totally trashed. Nope.
BUt there was almost 2 acres of my buddy;s yard that did burn because of it.
Got it on the trailer and drug it home.... Behind the IDI of course.:D

Took the shop vac and started sucking up all the burnt material and started pulling parts.

It apears the GPC wiring was with a small fuel leak were the culprits to the fire.

Quite frankly, I'm not going to find much challenge in reviving this member of the dark side.:dunno

A couple of hours of teardown and it's ready for a few organ transplants.

Parts list:

Engine harness from drivers side fender
GP controller
A/C and alternator harness
Passenger side intake boot from turbo spider
Fuel filter assembly
both high pressure fuel lines
both HPOP oil lines
all low pressure rubber fuel lines
alternator
Air cleaner and box
Oil pressure sender
Oil temp sensor
EBPR sensor???

The HPOP was directly underneath the fire but appears to be unscathed upon visual inspection. Hopefully seals and orings weren't damaged.

The passenger side front GP harness connector did take some heat but still appears good enough to reuse.

Well here's a few pics of the carnage before and after the teardown.

I've got a line on the airbox, and I'm gonna have him get an alternator for it.

Mark, I'll shoot ya a pm.;Sweet

Ron, I would also check the IPR--down just below the HPOP on the driver side---it is powered by a coil that slides over the IPR and the seals in the IPR are most likely toast...add about $130 for a new one unless someone has access to one.

There are some seals in the HPOP...around the washplate---kinda like Mazda rotor seals---iffy on their survival :dunno

What condition are the valve cover connectors where they are exposed topside?

What does the ICP look like---left head right in front.....

Hopefully the fire did not short the harness enough to fry the IDM.......

Geo, the only valve cover connector that took enough heat was the passenger side front one. It's still in good enough shape to reuse.

They had run alot of water on top of it trying to get the fire out which in turn set the yard on fire.
The HPOP didn't have any material stuck on it so I think it should be ok if enough water set in there to keep it cool.
The one pic rteally show alot of crap down in there, but they pulled the air filter element out of the box and left it setting on thop of the motor.cookoo

Alot of these acronyms are new to me so bear with me. Mesa still learnin.

Looks like I've got some more things to check closer.
