I was wondering if the engine from a 95 f250 would bolt into a 97 f250 HD frame without modifications

Oh yeah.Good point. My brain jumped right to an assumption without even realizing it.Though fairly rare, there are 92-96 F250LD's (with 300/302's) out there.Someone finally posted a pic for me online,it's got the crumple zones behind the bumper, indicating it's the F150 frame.

use all the parts from the 95F250 and it will bolt into the 97 F250HD . even if the 97 is was a 5.8 or a 460. all you need to do is drill some more holes. I put a 1987 6.9 diesle into a 1983 F150 4x4 when I pulled out the 300 6cyl..
diesle bell bolted up to the T18. all I had to do was mount the diesel frame perches into the F150 chassis , a few bolts lines up and a few had to be drilled. lots of interchangability between the 80-96 F150s and broncos, and the 80-97 F250HD-F350-F450.

Um, neither transmission in this case will have a "bell". Both the transmissions available in both model years bolt directly to the block. Bellhousings went out with the Borg/C6 era. If the recipient '97 truck was a gasser, its transmission will have a different bolt pattern from the donor PSD. So the question remains, what ENGINE was in the '97.
