Hey guys, first post here

I am deleting my stock turbo (Garrett) on my ‘94 IDI.

I’m wondering if I’ll have to adjust the fuel now that I’m NA and, if so, how much? It tracks that it would come from factory tuned for the extra boost - just not sure if it’s tuned so much that EGTs will get too hot without it.

Inb4 “y delet?” - simply don’t need or want it, want to preserve rings as I already have a bit of blowby. I won’t be hauling >5,000 lbs anyways, and at that, very infrequently.

You could just leave the turbo and turn down the pump. In any event just like going up in fuel go down slowly 1-2 flats at a time. Drive it and see how you like it. Take some more off if you want. It’s about power, egts And milage.

I should have said, *I already have turbo off and am uninterested in putting it back on.

In any case, does anyone know what they come tuned to stock from the factory?

Welcome to the party. I'm a NA type of guy myself, there's plenty of umph to do what you gotta do. Just don't be in a hurry, just chill and cruise.

All these engines have Blow By.
On the side of the IP is a triangle plate with 2 screws holding it on.
Remove the top screw and just loosen the bottom one, it will
swing down and hang on it. Makes it easier to get the plate screwed back on. There is a rubber seal under it, be care full of it.

Put a rag under it before loosening it, some fuel will spill out.
I adjusted mine last summer, and as I remember, I took off the Plate or as mine was the Oil Fill tube where the Pump bolts on.
You will see 3 Bolts and a Dowell Pin.
Rotate the Engine till the Dowell Pin is at 12 O`Clock.
Use a small mirror and flash light, look into the triangle hole and there should be the allen head bolt you adjust.
The flats are the flats on the hex wrench.

Turn it back untill you don`t have black smoke.

I have notes some where when I did this....

Without a pyrometer for reference, you're just dialing back fuel (and power) blindly with the allen screw.

My buddy cranked his pump up 2-3 flats ('90 non turbo) and ran it like that for years. Not saying it's the way to go, but it tolerated it.

Is the turbo-IDI's injection pump boost-referenced like a Bosch pump is with the AFC diaphragm control?

There's three bolts and a dowel pin. You want that dowel pin at 12 o'clock.
Correct. I said as "I remember". I forgot the Dowel Pin, was thinking was a line. :idiot:

Knew I had to "Line" something up.

I`ll make a correction in my post above.
