I have a suggestion that hasn’t been mentioned yet: Liqui Moly Diesel Purge. It’s supposed to clean built up carbon off of the injector tip and chamber. The way you’re supposed to use it is to hook up your fuel intake and return hoses to a container full of diesel purge, and just run your engine off of it until the container runs out. The VW TDI guys swear by it, and you can find a number of videos on YouTube about it. You might try soaking the rings with it as well.

Can confirm, works wonders on thr vp33 pumps. I've used it on my idi before but didnt see a difference between it and power service

I heard good things about Liqui Moly Diesel Purge as well. I purchases some and was going to do the full treatment but ended up just replacing the injectors. It's still on my shelf. Just curious how hard are you running the engine after these soakings? I was under the impression you want to run it like you stole it. If no improvement is detected then soak again while it's still hot and repeat.

That is correct, you want to fully excersise the pump to work Anything loose and burn it out

Copy that about running it hard. I haven't done that, yet. It's a little tricky as the first thing it's probably going to do is smoke like crazy - possibly worse than before - and I need a place I can do that without someone calling the fire department on me. I'll see what I can figure out. Maybe take it up the freeway grade at night and claim ignorance it's smoking at all....

My 1990 F-250 with a 7.3 IDI burns around 2 gallons of oil every 100 miles. No, that's not a misprint.
“Honey, check the fuel while I fill the oil!!” Wow, that is crazy amounts, how did you catch it before ruining your engine?

Any updates on this?

In an earlier post you mentioned it is hard to put liquid
into the cylinders.
I use one of those Meat Syringes to squirt it into a GP hole.
The $ store use to sell them, haven`t seen one in there since
the Covid krap.
Wally World has them but about $7.

EDIT: I use the syringe say I replace the Lift Pump and change
the hard fuel line to rubber going to the Filter. I fill the hose before attaching it. Also the Hard Line to IP, if changed to
rubber. I fill it also. This keeps out any air problems
starting the engine.

I grabbed mine from the grocery store isle, years ago, which is usually expensive....can’t remember price.

I have one for coolant samples and one for oil samples. And of course one in the kitchen that never leaves the kitchen

Did a Google search for Meat Syringe

Prices are all over the place. the needle for the meat syringe shoots the juice out the side on the end. I cut the end off.
If you get one w/o the needle, I guess you could use a piece of
clear tubing.

Do a search for just "syringe" then you get into the medical
side of things.

EDIT: search for walmart/syringe. some cheaper prices.

So the Liqui Moly Diesel Purge.....Where do you buy it?
I see how using it to run thru the IP & injectors, thru the intake & return fuel , I got that idea. But do you run some of it in the oil to hopefully unstick rings?

The Marvel Mystery Oil, you add some to the oil & run it? Or maybe squirt some thru the GP hole & let set for a while?

On my '94 FIDIT engine I have in my '90 truck, I'm needing to probably overhaul it soon as I get my 40x64 shop finished. Maybe in a month or so....now that winter & the D@%^ wind & snow is here.....
Anyway, it's still running, but I got 2 cyl low compression. 125 & 175, rest good compression. But I wanted to try few things etc etc before I tear it down.
Also before I tear it down I want to get things like new rings, gasket set, etc etc , found out as to what I'll probably need & get lined up. But all that stuff probably be a new thread I'll start.....
Right now I saw this about Marvel Mystery, & Liqui Moly & few other things so I thought I'd maybe check things out & maybe try few things to test & check in next few weeks.

Yes. I'd add a quart to the oil. You can also add some to your fuel, BUT it's red so watch out for DOT if they like to randomly pull fuel around you. I've never even seen a DOT truck, much less been pulled over by one but I still won't add anything red to my fuel just in case.

Even if DOT does dip your tank don't they still have to test it? I have occasionally added ATF to soak the IP and always think about how long it might take before the red color is fully diluted.
