Just recently got a 86 f350. Stock with around 90k. It's hard to first crank. When you do get it running. It will rev up and idle down offen. Sometimes it will go dead then real hard to get it started. After it gets warmed up she'll run like a sowing machine. I've fixed a couple fuel leaks. The cold idle solenoid doesn't appear to be doing it. Also the glow plug light stays on till its running.

Try replacing the return line going from the fuel filter to an injector cap with some clear hose. That will give you a pretty good indication of whether or not you're getting any air in the lines. I had very similar symptoms and it turned out to be the water separator. Not saying that's your issue, but the clear hose helped a lot in narrowing it down

Welcome to the forum. Best I can suggest is make sure your fuel tanks never get down to 1/4 tank level. Most fuel tank suction heads break off and the last 1/4 tank of fuel can't be sucked out. Then you suck air and the engine dies right after startup or runs like you describe.

Thanks...I'll check both tomorrow. Only thing that's getting me. After it warms up. It runs fine and cranks right up.

Well today it did a lot better. Go figure. Fuel surged like it did in that video for a few minutes then cleared up.

Might be a leaky, drooling injector or two?

The description sounds like air intrusion. Maybe tighten the olive joints a tiny bit to see if that helps. If it does, you aren't done, it means you need to replace the olives. Olives are square sided O rings in some of the slip joint hard fuel lines.

Lots of places to add air in the system.
