I have a 6.9 idi that im rebuilding and I’m confused about the engine serial number. From my understanding it should be a pre update block with press in piston cooling jets but it has bolt in jets and an updated block. I was told that the engine was remanufactured by international in the 90s is it possible that they had new blocks that they stamped the old serial into or am I just dumb and don’t know how to read the serial number?

That is definitely NOT the original factory serial number. You can see where the numbers were ground off. The number part isn't stamped with the same stamps that the first part was. I don't ever remember seeing a factory number that started with "B". They originally started out with "6.9DU2U" or "6.9DM2U" in the case of an International application. The numbers on it now don't mean anything except to whoever did the reman.

You can tell they have been hand stamped as they are not all even and in a straight line.

wonder what the B means? Cuz it looks like a factory serial for that part.

Probably should change the name
No need for that. It's how you're known here. If anything, I should change mine since my Bronco was sold in 2016. Again, that's how I'm known here so I decided to keep the name.

The B could mean about anything. We'll never know. You can still see part of the factory "6" and maybe even the "." in the grinder marks above their number. All of the original numbers and letters are the same size and are all smaller than the ones that show now.
