So me and my boss were shooting the crap earlier and looking through a diesel power mag and said hey why not put that turbo on the 99 7.3? We have a 6.0 truck and two 7.3 engines to work with. Any ideas? Maybes it's been talked about.

Yeah thats the main part. On the 6.0 the computer controls the VGT on the turbo and the 7.3 computer won't know what to do with it. If it can be made to work, that would be a pretty cool swap for the 7.3.

I think it's 100% possible. Wmoguy, a member here, adapted the VGT turbo off a cummins on his idi of all engines. There are aftermarket VGT controllers available.

Not trying to be a downer, but it just doesn't even seem worth it when there are so many upgraded turbo options intended for the 7.3L. I think that the reason that the hybrid 6.0L VGT's are popular is because they are a direct bolt in upgrade. Also a VGT is quite problematic compared to your old tried and true waste gated designs. It would be a lot of hassle for little gain, in my opinion.

When you're talking about 6.0 vgt's, they are problematic.
But the duramax had the same turbo, but used different materials, and didn't have those problems.
I've always wanted a vgt turbo on my 7.3. Maybe one off the 6.7. But that's a long long long ways down the road.
But their are better bolt in options. Like a d66.
But I believe he asked because he has a 6.0 turbo laying around.

We have a whole truck. Either want to do a cummins swap or something cool with it.

Why would anyone do anything that's not mainstream.....
Might as well just swap a cummins in instead.
