hey guys,

well im finally on break and need to make a decision about which powertrain to go with.

The complete 6.0l setup is now only 4000.00 It is as complete as they come and the motor has 900 miles, and the rest 40k. It was a factory warranty replaces engine.

Do you think i should venture to the 6.0?

Some of you have had some serious problems. Is there any way to spot these before purchase?

Advice?

Should be a serial number you can run.

The serial number will be cast into the block somewhere, probably around the oil filter set up. The reason I say check into build date is that the 03 and early 04's were the problematic ones, if it is an 04 I would be leary of it especially one with 900 miles on it.

How do you decode the numbers?

If its like and 05 0r 06 or newer is it issues free, or just less Major problems?

hey guys here is all the number that came off the engine etc. Help, i dont know if i did this correctly.

block # is 183817002. headgasket stamping # is 184046302. Blue ident tag on valve cover says 2004, 1845319c1, 4nvxh06.0aeb. Based on the info I can find on the net it is a late production 2004 after Ford fixed a bunch of stuff.

?

My guess it that it must be '05 or later. the IC pipe to the motor is metal unlike plastic for the '03 or '04. Those blew off under boost frequently.

IIRC, he's putting it in an 86 F350. Should be a sweet rig. I've always been partial to the 80-86 body style.

i thought mike would have chimed in by now to tell us when the motor was built

mike?
From what I have found I agree that it is a late 04 and as for the IC pipe being upgraded, that probably happened in one of its trip into the shop for warranty/recall work.

I'd be scared as hell of that motor.

definatley, if it was me i wouldnt buy it. if your willing to do the work to put in a different engine all together, there's better, more reliable ones to choose from.
