a toy that isn't fun to play with, isn't a toy at all

I guess I was just wondering if it would be a really really disappointing dog with tires that big taking off from lights and wanted to hear from people with the same set up.

it would be like driving a truck with 3.08's.only worse cus now ya got heavy tires.diesels and big blocks are going to be fairly forgiving.................but personally i wouldn't run 37's without swapping in a set of 4.30's (at least) or preferably some 4.56 gears.
if your lifting and putting on big rubber, then fuel economy is of little concern.so id insure it was fun to drive.

Did the diesel zf5s only come with the close ratio?

Yes, diesel ZF's are close ratio.

No, wide ratio.
Dave

Wide ratio would mean a larger split between gears, and a close ratio keeps the gearing spread tighter.
Gas / Diesel
5.72 / 4.14
2.94 / 2.37
1.61 / 1.42
1.0 / 1.0
0.76 / 0.77
5.24-R /3.79-R

Notice how the gaps between gears are smaller on the diesel? The diesel has more torque and a lower operating range (RPM), so it doesn't need gearing as low and should benefit from tighter gear splits.

I am thinking you will be fine if you dont plan on towing much of anything.
If you plan on using your truck for something other than commuting, I would swap in 4:11's. That seems to be a great all around gear ratio IMO.

Thanks for that A48WillyzGuy. I keep getting that wrong. I owned a KW with a 13 spd tranny and shifted that tranny hundreds of times every day. I know that but for some reason I do not remember it.

You'll also be fine towing with it. Keep in mind guys.. we are talking about a van and not a truck so no goose neck or HEAVY pulls most likely. Take off while pulling may need a bit more clutch work.

Yes truck not van, but I ran 39.5 with 3.55 for the longest time. Never had an issue, still got decent mileage. But I had s np435 wide ratio.
