Alright guys tough decisions. I have a 7.3 tidi. I pulled it and found it to be .30 over. Pistons are cracked so I need new ones. I could get .30 over but they are super expensive($1000+)and just hone it. Or I could go get it machined to .40 over and get pistons for about $400. Or I could sleeve it and find some standard size pistons. Any input or recommendations is appreciated. I am planning on going with maybe russe’s wheel upgrade on turbo or rnd idi stage 1. I will be running head studs and other supporting mods. Thanks for the input.

If it were my engine I would not go 40 0ver. The cylinder side wall thickness is not sufficient to allow that. You would be making the side walls too thin, too subject to failure. Given a choice I would sleeve it down to standard size. I would consider that a more reliable engine, and reliability plays a large part in my decisions.

Why the 3 fold difference?
Machine work should be cheaper than what you are looking at for piston $$$????
