Hey guys the stock electric fuel pump on the frame rail of my 2001 excursion seems to be fine, I hear it come on for 10 seconds or so with the key, and the truck runs fine.
I was just curios though if I should replace it for good measure while I have the truck down for other things. How long do these things last? Is it a time bomb waiting to strand me, or are they basically not worried about. I have no idea on the history of this one. 423k on the truck, I doubt its original, but who knows :dunno

I wouldn't be worried. Otoh, if it is stock, that's a lot of mileage.
Iirc, the Bosch is recommended. But not the Amazon one, as it's a clone. Lol

i changed one on the side of the road in about 20 minutes if that makes you feel better. It was a bolt and two ford quick disconnects and it came out.

my 2003 E350 is still on the original pump at almost 550,000km with no issues since I've owned it at 360,000km I think 550,000 is around 330,000miles . you could still be on the original:popcorn

I may just swap it. Looks like Rock Auto has the BOSCH 69136 for $68 before shipping and discounts. Cant even fill the tank for $68 so why not drop $68 to empty it LOL

Yep, that 44 gallon tank is a blessing, or curse........ It's nice when we head to the MIL's... fill up before we leave, and fill up after a couple of trips to work..... and she is ~250 miles away.......

buy it and put it the glove box or behind the seat just in case. BOSCH quality has taken a dump in recent years and I'd rather run an OEM pump than any replacement.

From what I understand, Bosch is the OEM.

probably, my point was that old OEM from 18-15 years ago is better than the new BOSCH units for reliability.

Yup quality had taken a dive. I replace electric fuel pump on my 99 PSD wrecker every few years or couple thousand hours. I don't trust them. And I have also installed an inline see thru pre filter just for extra peace of mind. Yeah it can be done on the side of the road and I do have a used pump behind the seat and a fuel line tool but its never fun. I have run new Bosch and Airtex pumps. After a couple years they don't sounds as strong as they once did. Both brands.
