I have a snap on diesel timing tool and I would like to check the timing since I have had the ip rebuilt. What is the correct timing specification? I’ve read anywhere from 6.5 degrees, 8 degrees, and 9.5 degrees. I would appreciate someone who has actually timed one before, to chime in. Thanks

8.5* will work well. Most play with it a little to find the sweet spot. Some have found 9-9.5* is a little better. Seems to be a bit truck dependent.

I have a timing light that I can set the degrees with. Do I set the timing light to 8.5 degrees set the engine to 2000rmp and line the scribe mark on the dampener with the bottom pointer (circled in the picture) not the top one right?

I have a Tach-N-Time, mag pickup, and a serious timing light. I have set my timing all over the place. My final conclusion is, set for no rattle after warm up.

Look closer at the bottom port (where you circled); there is a timing mark stamped there. Put some paint on it.

The bottom timing tab tube. The short fat one is the top dead center mark. The kent moore j33300 does not use this port. We use the top tall skinny tube. then rev to 2000 rpm so the internal timing springs return to a normal state.
