How would u stop wide open throttle?
Disconnect batteries?

Thanks
They say putting a towel over the intake. You'll have the air filter off so have a towel handy, some say a wet towel but I don't know that it would matter. If you do a wet towel, don't do sopping wet, just wet. But your only option in that "worst case scenario" would be starving it for air. A mechanically injected diesel doesn't need electricity to run. Ive seen YouTube videos of guys putting the top back on, as long as it sits forward and you have to slide the top back against slight spring pressure to line up the bolts, you're good.

Be careful with the rag trick, it only works if you still have the screen on the intake. If you have a turbo you will have to take off the part over the intake first so you are ready to go.

Most unscrew the fuel filter, causes air intrusion and also cuts the fuel. So make sure to loosen the fuel filter enough you can unscrew by hand if needed.

As Jesus Freak mentioned just be careful and take your time. Most members are aware of the issue, so they R&R without issue. Conestoga Diesel sells the top with the solenoid if your solenoid is bad.

If you have a manual transmission, you can also put it into high gear and slowly let out on the clutch while holding the brake pedal hard.

Cable guy,

A locked up engine is an issue.

1) Could be your starter or low batteries. Test voltage on batteries shoukd be 12-12.6 volts, if not charge.
2) I would take a socket and breaker bar and turn the crank 4 revolutions, if locked up or locks up pull the glow plugs and do it again. Look at the glow plugs for water soaking, oil soaking or other odd signs. Might be able to locate the offending cylinder.
a) Still locked up, put some Marvel Mystery oil in each glow plug hole. Give it 24 hours and see if the starter can break it loose. If not try the breaker bar and socket on the damper bolt. Just do not over do it or loosen it.
b) Now turns after pulling GP’s figure out what hydro locked the engine. Oil, coolant, water, or ???.

Hopefully just low batteries. Potentially one cylinder has too much diesel in it from all the cranking. Coolant/water - either it leaked into the air cleaner if it is raining or you have a bad head gasket, cracked head, cracked block, or cavitation. Head gasket is most common.

Let us know what you find and send pics.

When you had it off, or if you pull it off again, check and see if the battery moves the solenoid. Use some jumper wires or something. Don't give up....."its not dead, yet!"
