Hi Guys,

I'm doing a remanufactured E40D automatic transmission swap on my 1990 F250, 4x4, 7.3l IDI. When I dropped the old one out, it did not have either of the 2 bolts that go through the upper plate of the transmission mount and bolt it to the bottom of the transmission housing. Before I start guessing, does anyone know what size and thread those bolts are?

Thanks!

It's been a while for me, but it seems like those have a standard head on them so I guess that they're standard. I don't recall them being very long. Maybe like 1 1/2"? You can get pretty close by using your transmission as a guide. The transmission mount isn't very thick where those bolts go through and you can measure the depth of the bosses where they thread into. I'd have to guess that they are 1/2" course thread bolts. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the reply! I had some time later yesterday and started trying to fit other bolts in. One of the metric bolts from the cross-member fit so I went to the local specialty hardware store and guessed about the length. It will be this weekend before I chase the threads out. I can hand run one in about a 1/4 inch, the other is messed up so I'll have to see if I can chase the threads out. I'll confirm size and update this weekend.

I forgot if they're 1 1/2" or 2", but definitely 1/2" x 13TPI bolts.
Just guessed when I got new hardware and got 2 1/2" long, then had to use a couple head bolt washers for spacers.

Yes, 1/2 x 13TPI. The rep at the remanufactured Tran company found a spec for 1-inch bolts. They fit perfectly. The plate on the trans support between the cross bar and the transferer case was a bit over 1/8th thick. I decided to do one of the front U joints on the 4-wheel drive shaft but everything else is going back in well.
