Going to pick one up tomorrow. Just wanted to double check. I've read a few threads that people said they had d50's...

if its an actual F350 and not an F250 it should have a dana 60 kingpin axle alogn with the F350 4" rear block. . an F250 could have either a dana 44 TTB or a dana 50 TTB. I've had them all.

1985.5-up f350's of any flavor came with the dana 60 frontend from the factory(4x4 that is). Of course you can see anything over time that someone has done. I am sure there are some who have bought a f350, stole the axle out of the front, put their dana 50 ttb under the f350 and sold it. A lot of people would not know the difference.

Thanks guys. It's an actual f350 and the guy has owned it since 91. Hopefully it is what it should be . :Thumbs Up

That being said... The Dana 50 front axle actually isn't bad. IIRC, the dana 50 and 60 use the same size knuckles, same bearings.
The differential is a little lighter, and it's TTB, but I think I'd probably be one of those to sell off my 60 for a 50 and put the money elsewhere.

The only downside to the TTB is that bushings and ride-height controls the camber, so if your bushings become shot it can wear tires.
A good-shape ttb, however, will wear evenly just like a straight axle.

Either way, you *should* have the 60... But if it was a 50, it's still worth buying, for a bit less money.

There are many disadvantages to the d50 lol. I'm tired of dumping time and money in to it. D60 is a huge upgrade. Thanks guys!

So that explains the turning radius on my 1985 F250 ex cab 4x4. I, personally, have only ran into one other one that turned like that and it was also a 1985 F250 4x4, but it was reg cab with a 460.

Dana 50 good thing> axle shafts and Ujoints are external full clip, and not internal C clips like a 60. so they will take more shock loads for heavy service.
Dana 50 worst thing> breaking the L side beam at the carrier after continously hammering it down on the bumps stop until it crushes it and hammers on the left frame rail:moon:
