Hey y’all!

I have a 1986 F250 that originally was a 2wd with a C6 auto. Some time ago I swapped a 4wd ZF-5 into it and and am in the process of finishing a frame swap for 4wd.

I was wonder if anyone had measurements for the t-case shifter hole in the trans tunnel cover.

I have the BW-1356 with the shifter that appears to come through the tunnel cover. The pictures show roughly where the shifter sits.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

I wish I could be of help, I just looked around in my parts trucks with no luck. l know I have a 4x4 tunnel cover for an auto and for a 4spd, after searching for awhile I remembered that the auto got used in my 84. After some thought i feel like i remember seeing the 4spd one in my transmission stash at my shop in town. Unfortunately I'm not sure when I will be there next.

If you haven't figured it out in the next few days let me know and I will go find it and get the measurements for you.

not sure on measurements, but it has its own hole here. I had to pull the screws and the block off plate on my 85 and clean the sealant/goo. Hope this helps

@frankenwrench he is using the bullnose t-case shifter that goes through the removable trans cover plate.

If the bullnose t case shifter uses a different hole, then why does my 85 cab have this hole pre made for use with the transfer case shifter? Not arguing, just fail to understand why this accommodation was made by ford if those shifters weren't in use at that time?

I honestly don't know. It could have very well been a thing in the later bullnose, I have never had an 86 and the only 85 that I ever was a 2wd auto that I only had for a few months.

The oldest that I have seen that shifter location used on was 87 so I always figured it was an upgrade for the new body style. Now when I did the zf5 / 1356 install in my 84 years ago, I did cut the floor to use that style shifter.

Thanks for the replies!

There is definitely no removable cover on my 86. I actually left a gap in my dyna mat for the purpose of cutting in the cab floor.

This transmission and t-case were out of an 89 or 87 brick nose and had the hole in the cab floor similar to the picture Frankenwrench posted but the shifter that I have is different from the original that came with this t-case.

I took some rough measurements and am going to take a shot at cutting out a hole for this thing and will get back with my results.

So the hole turned out to be a way too big left to right but I’ll make it work with the boot that I have. Here’s some pictures.

I don’t have any bushings in the shifter yet so these pictures show the stick at its farthest point in 2H (forward position) and 4L (back position). I think when I get the bushings put in there will be a bit more clearance in the 4L position.

I made the cut with a plasma cutter. I’ve never used one before if you’re wondering why it looks like a 3 year old did it

The cover is the piece in your third picture in this post. There isn't one just for the transfer case shifter.
I guess I’m just misunderstanding what you’re saying.

The removable cover for the transmission has a 2wd and 4wd version? Or did I entirely miss a section of the cover that can be removed.

Just wanting to clear it up for anyone who looks at this in the future.

What the second photo shows is the opening for the transfer case shifter. There is no shifter in that photo.

It looks to me like he started with a trans tunnel cover for a truck that had a side hump 4x4 shifter. He is using the high mount shifter so it required cutting a hole in the tunnel cover.
